Thought this was important to post!

New Food Pyramid (http://www.usda.gov/wps/portal/!ut/p/_s.7_0_A/7_0_1OB?contentidonly=true&contentid=2005/04/0131.xml)

They don't have the mypyramid.gov site up yet though.

And here's another link about the change:

http://abcnews.go.com/Health/wireStory?id=682319

I think the MyPyramid.gov will be a pretty handy tool. I'm looking forward to trying it out!

That is really neat. I wonder when the mypyramid.gov will be up?

I like it. i always thoughtthe food pyramid was BS, but this one is pretty cool. I was also pleased with the general one they have out with all the whole grains and stuff. I subscribe to the whole whole grain ideal.

Me, too. I think I just might be the only Mexican who prefers Whole Wheat Tortillas to regular ones. Of course, they are homemade ww tortillas, though :D

I've always eaten wheat my entire life. I grew up on it. My parents never had white bread in the house, it was always whole wheat. But it is yummy!

The only switch i need to make now is to whole wheat pasta!

Hogsdon Mills or Hogsdon Farms(don't remember which) is what I use. It's really yummy.

Yeah, we always had ww bread in the house. My dad's new thing is 12 grain bread, I don't like it. There are big seeds in there :frustrate I don't eat sandwiches at my parents house.

Me, too. My bread needs to be soft. Finding crunchy bits in it, freaks me out.

I have been eating sourdough bread (hey! I'm from San Francisco) for my entire life. Up until about 6 months ago where I decided to completely cut out all white products and go wheat. I haven't really lost weight or noticed much of a difference, but I guess I'm healthier.

haha..I actually buy that bread w/ seeds in it. The more stuff in the bread, the better.

supposedly, i read somewhere that multi-grain bread doesn't mean it's whole grain? That doesn't make sense to me. I do'nt eat jsut the normal cheap-o wheat bread, i get whole wheat, and i understand the difference with that but not multi-grain.

Biodork...whole wheat pasta is sooo good. I can't even eat the normal stuff anymore. I always buy the Healthy Harvest stuff, unless I'm lucky enough to find organic whole wheat pasta. That's even better.

I don't like 12 grain bread, but that's only b/c I'm SUPER paranoid about getting stuff caught in my teeth. ;)

haha..I used to be like that when I had braces. There were about 5000 foods I wouldn't eat for fear of having a Miranda moment.

Hey Trader Joe's multigrain bread is really good! But then again, I can stand the grains and seeds.

So does this have to do with the 12 new food pyramids they're coming up with? I read something about that on msnbc.com

while i think it is great that they are revamping the pyramid (great marketing scheme), i do think it is complete bullshit. keep in mind that the meat & dairy lobbyists have a lot to gain & lose by how much of their food is incorporated into this pyramid. unfortunately the pyramid & the usda is not concerned about your health, only money.

"The USDA's main job is still to promote consumption of U.S. agricultural products," says Marion Nestle, chair of the department of nutrition and food studies at New York University.

Liz, have you read Nestle's book, "Food Politics?" Great read... I have it on my shelf next to my copy of Fast Food Nation. Both are eye-opening.
