Sorry, I'm just in a ranty mood. Cramps started this morning, I just completely feel like being grumpy, would love to go home, but have a staff meeting at 2, so that's not happening.

I hate being at work with cramps, cause I know I have this grumpy, pissed off look on my face, and I don't want to talk to anyone. I am just happy wallowing in my own self pity ;):

That sucks, paige. Cramps are the reason I'm afraid to go off my pill. I'd have to stay home one day a month b/c they're so horrible... Do you have a heating pad or anything? That always helps me.

Boo, hiss. I recently went off the pill, and so I am now back in the world of debilitating, doubling over and crying cramps for sure one to two days a month. I had forgotten what that was like in the three years I was on them. I might have to go back, just for that. So you're right to worry, Met. It sucks. Kind of expensive cramp medication.

It sucks cause I'm actually ON the pill, so that gives you some insight to how I am OFF the pill. I've been off the pill before and my cramps start nearly a WEEK BEFORE TOM. Those were the days when I'd completely miss school/college/whatever.

At least the pill only gets me down to 1 day of severe cramping, but I am expected to go to a staff meeting today, where I'm gonna have to give criticism to some people's analysis'.......I really hope I don't become Psycho-bitch

My old OBGYN gave me muscle relaxers. I stockpiled them and use them for the times where i physically cna't move at all. They're fantastic.

Before the pill, I remember having cramps so bad sometimes I couldn't walk. I don't want to go back to that! I can take the one/two days of lighter cramps so much better.

Not to mention I never knew when any of it was going to start. I just be in the middle of class one day then BAM nasty cramps. I even tried to keep track of my periods on a calendar, but it would be the same for 2-3 months then change.

Mine too... they were wonderful, but I was totally loopy. They've expired now, though. :(

Paige, can you go for a walk? Exercise helps w/ cramps, too.

You know what? As many times as people have told me this and I've read it, I've never known it to be true for me, sadly. Most of the time I hurt enough that even walking up and down stairs is a chore.

This is a bold face lie  I work out during my cramps & TOM, and I can honestly say I feel just as shitty.

Actually I ran out to my car & got my prescription strength Naproxen.

Sex doesn't work for my cramps either! If I exercise or have sex, my cramps come right back afterwards! (Or as with exercise, I will be in pain while I exercise)

Ahahahah! I, too, lump it in with "runner's high" as lies and propaganda!

well, not that bad, but man, I am one happy camper. Nothing can go wrong when I'm on that stuff.

LOL, words & paige... I actually feel better when I work out. However, it only lasts while I'm working out and a little while after...

Muscle relaxers are wonderful. I'm totally like the sister in 16 candles... If I took one, I'd have to get a ride to work and I would accomplish NOTHING.

Sometimes I get such horrible cramps/pain that I really just want to go home. I just don't know what to say to my boss..."I'm having girl troubles?" That seems to weird..

I've just said, "I don't feel well," and gone home before. It's more uncomfortability than I get from most "legitimate" illnesses, which I know people call in sick for here all the time.

I guess I'm just so used to providing an excuse, that I didnt think of that. For some reason I feel obligated, I dunno why. This probably stems back to my insecurity and paranoia.

Yeah, I know...I have to be in some pretty severe discomfort to not be at work. But when it's really bad, there's just no way in hell I can concentrate, let alone deal with people.

Yeah, I suffered through a serious fever and serious cramps/bloating discomfort at this job because I was paranoid to go home.

Ugh, issues.

paige - i feel for you. cramps are awful & it is hard to sit through a day at work when you are so much pain. at my job, there are plenty of heating pads & prescription strength ibuprofen that work wonders.

this month was my first month on hormonal bc in a few years & i had no cramps or bloating. very very happy am i.

Try having period cramps right after getting your stomach cut open to have your gallbladder removed - that was me last week! There couldn't have been a worse time for me to have cramps! You want to talk about a bad stomach ache - man!!

I'm right with you! I've been munching on Lindor's white choc truffles this morning while drinking my coffee. Thankfully I'm not hurting as bad this morning as I was last night.

The first day is the worst for me...and it sucks i think its the BC i'm on because the last ones i barely had any cramps...definitely time to make a switch, i've had nothing but problems on this one

Usually the last 2 days before I start feeling extremely uncomfortable and the first day is usually the most painful. I had a problem with BC once, but it was acne related. When I was on it I could not get rid of the acne EVER! After the first six week I went back to my dr and said "This has got to go! I want my other stuff back!" He kinda raised his brow pulled my chart and said "No problem, I don't know why nurse so-n-so changed it in the first place" Problem solved, but now if I could only remember to take the damn things.

So consider me one of the lucky ones who don't get cramps ( ::ducks and runs:: ), but I hate everything else about my period. I hate feeling exhausted. Every night this week (except last night) I've gone to bed way early (I'm taking 8.30-9 here), I feel lazy, and I get so moody. Like the other day I was talking about boys with a coworker and I just wanted to cry. It didn't even bother me much what we were talking about, I was just extremely moody. At night I tend to think about things that are worrying me and this week I've been wanting to cry too, wtf! I also hate feeling bloated and gassy and looking like I'm due to give birth to triplets in 2 months. So to add on to cramps sucking, I'm jsut gonna say PERIODS SUCK!

This thread is scaring me  I have been wanting to go off the pill for a while now but I'm not so sure... I've been on it for something like 10 years - I don't REMEMBER what it was like to not be on it. My cramps aren't very bad now and they only happen RIGHT before it starts. I still get moody as hell, bloat, and get really tired though. In fact, I would say that pre-period I'm actually depressed. I don't know if getting off would help or hurt.

If that's the case, I would advise thinking about it before getting off the pill! Obviously everyone's body is different, but here's what happened to me. I NEVER had cramps for like the first 12 years after I first got my period. I used to think my roommates in college who would get terrible cramps were just a bunch of wimps. I went on the pill for about three and a half years starting my last year of college and lasting until about a year after I got married, partially for BC needs and partially to get my crazy irregular period on some sort of schedule. I stopped because it was causing headaches even after switching to different kinds of pills like three times. Now that I've been off the pill for two years I am fairly irregular again and all of a sudden have these HORRIBLE cramps before every other period. The first time I had them I was convinced I had appendicitis or something until I realized what was going on. I guess it's payback for those 12 years when I didn't even know how good I had it! :)

Edit: I'd tell your doctor if you are feeling depressed - they might be able to switch you to something that makes you less prone to mood swings.
