So I've actually been busy at work, and dieting and exercising, so I thought...this is why my periods are so far inbetween. Well, 3 months go by--no period-- and I go to the Dr.'s today. They think I'm not producing enough hormones, so I've got a 10 day supply of super hormones that should start it in 2 weeks.
The scary thing is, they drew blood too. They have to test for cancer cells, thyroid problems, and menopause.
I wasn't too worried going into the Dr.'s office, but now I'm freaked out. I totally expected them to say "It's from dieting, go home." I'm not dropping pounds fast either, due to regular cheat nights :) So they are right. They also are putting me back on birth control pills. I'm sure my bf will be happy, alas; Hopefully it's just a hormonal thing and not any of the other speculations they have... I'm kinda nervous, tho.

How hard is it to get pregnant when you are on the pill (taking it correctly) and dont use condoms?

my friend loves the fact that her periods are irregular. we have lived together for a year now and she has had 2 periods. I say she needs to go to the doctor, but she doesn't seem all that concerned about it

That is scary, but missing your period is not good for the body, it is a huge sign that something is wrong - so I am really glad to hear you are taking care of yourself and getting to the bottom of it.
I had a friend that didn't get her period for over 3 years!! She always said it was because of excessive working out ..but I'm not sure. I don't know what happened in the long run, becaue we lost contact...

Tina, totally tell your friend to see a Dr. I thought it was cool too, but then the Dr. was ultra-serious and said it was a good thing I came in, and then listed off all the potential reasons, etc. The Dr. said that even though you skip periods, the lining continues to build and women who skip periods often, like your friend, are more prone to developing cancer. She said women need at min. 4 periods a year, so once you get to your 3rd month, then something is wrong.
Thanks for the support everyone! Kitty, you're right. The Dr. stressed how important it was to go in. I think most women don't, and that is how the Dr. felt.

Ugh, and the periods you DO get when you skip are killer. I used to skip all the time in my early teens (I eventually became regular when I got to like 16 or so and now I'm like clockwork). But the periods I would get back then were horrid. I had the absolute worst cramps and 7+ days of a pretty heavy flow. Trust me, you do NOT want to skip periods.

I've had very irregular cycles as well, and while I do think you should seek medical advice when you're not getting your period for a while, it's not always the end of the world. I've gone through months of getting it like clockwork, and at other times it's disappeared for as long as 9 months (and it only came after that because my doctor jump-started it with hormones - like what you're doing right now.) I also never had the problem of having excessively heavy periods after missing some.
My main concern is that there are times when you DO want to have them regularly and know that everything is OK (like if you're trying to get pregnant). And it could be more or less what is normal for your body, but as the others said, you want to know if something is wrong.
