So I was diagnosed with asthma when I was younger, and really it's never been serious and I'd thought I grew out of it, but over this weekend I started having a ton of trouble breathing, and I've been wheezing all morning. The other thing is though, I've also had some bad acid reflux the past week because of stress and I'm wondering if the two are connected? I found this article on webmd:

Anyone had a similar problem?
Wondering if I should see a doc pretty soon though...all this stress comes from moving back home, where I will need to live until at least the end of july...

Not sure if it could have any impact but I saw on the weather channel that pollen levels are at higher levels than usual for this time of year. They say even some people who normally are not bothered by pollen might be. I don't know if you have any allergies or not.

This happened to me a couple years ago and it actually turned out that I had an inflamed muscle in between my rib cage. It expands to allow you to breath, but if it's inflamed, it can't expand and it really hurts to breath. It feels like an asthma attack, but since the inhaler doesn't help, you can start to panic. Is you chest tender to the touch? My doc prescribed an anti-inflammatory and it went away.

My chest doesn't hurt at all, I've just been have the breathing problems. It seems to happen at night. I do have allergies (and have been moving, bringing up a lot of dust) Maybe it's that in combination with the pollen. I'm also worried Claritin-D isn't working as well, but maybe its just the high pollen count.

Last year I had breathing problems that occurred most severly at night. I thought that I was choking in my sleep because I kept waking up gasping for air. My doctor tested me for asthma, which I didn't have, and then put me on anxiety pills thinking that I was having panic attacks. My breathing felt more like my throat was closing up and it was very scary. Well the anxiety pills didn't work out and so then my doc finally concluded (after 3 months!) that I had chronic GERD. Now the reason it took so long was because I had atypical symptoms, no heart burn, female, and slim. My throat never hurt, it only felt like I couldn't breath. Typically GERD suffers are overweight, middle aged, and male, so you can see how my dr. had trouble diagnosing it. I asked for an endoscopy to verify and sure enough I do have GERD. I've read that asthma suffers are often times treated for GERD so perhaps this is the problem that you have as well. Since yours only happens on occassion it may just be heart burn, rather than the chronic condition.
Try not eating for 3 hours before bed time. Don't eat in large quantities and avoid tomatoes, onions, alcohol, chocolate, and vinagarettes. If you get better than perhaps this is what's causing your breathing problems - it could also be an allergy to something so try keeping a food journal as well. Well good luck!
Oh and chronic GERD can be caused by stress (my case) and well if you're at this forum...
