I got my mom stuff of www.redenvelope.com. It's my favorite mom-shopping site. Some things are not that expensive, like under $50.

Well, you could definitely get her a gift certificate for a spa treatment for $100 or less... It should definitely be something that is ALL about her.

Good question...my mom has had a hell of a year...my grandfather (Dad's father, NOT HERS) has been in and out of the hospital and her and my dad do all the taking care of him, not my uncle and his bitch wife. She's been there for me with Chris' stuff, has to deal with my half-slacker brother and father (they DO help her, just not always)...
I don't know what to do for her. She's not really into spas...and everything else just seems so lame. I don't know...for her 50th, we're getting her a picture taken of just me and my brother, since she hasn't had one since we were 5 and 3. LOL

What about something other than the spa? Does she do any activities? Like, for my mother's b-day last year, I got her a gift certificate for a bunch of yoga/pilates classes. You could do something like that... like golf lessons, or something else that she'd be into but wouldn't spend the $$ herself.

One gift that I have been wanting to get my mom/dad/both is just a professionally done portrait of my my sisters and I. Maybe get a nice frame. A little engraving on the frame. I don't know but I would think a parent would like something like that. It doesn't even have to be a huge picture. Alas my sisters think I'm a nut and never follow my suggestions.

One year my brother and I got one of those huge frames that has a mat with openings for tons of small photos, and we picked out tons of old photos of us from our childhood. We put our high school graduation photos in the bigger openings and filled the other spots with our old school pictures, baby pictures, and portraits of the two of us from over the years. Mom had extra wallet-sized copies of all these old photos carefully filed away in envelopes but didn't have them displayed anywhere, just the simple act of putting them all together in this one big frame really meant a lot to her (actually more than I had expected it to).

Pictures are really nice gifts. We just do little things, so I'm getting my mom a box of Godiva chocolates. Do you live near her? Can you take her out to dinner, or a play, or a picnic or something?

Jen, is your brother a half slacker, or is he your half brother? That made me laugh.
For my mom, we all make sure that we are around for mother's day. We try and go to a museum or something that she has been wanting to do. She knows we all can't afford a lot, so flowers and a card is ok. The best part of it for her is that all three of us come home.

Oh he's my full brother, all right, although I sometimes wonder...we're VERY different...LOL
She goes to the gym--paid for.
Doesn't meet with the trainer anymore, so I can't even buy a few sessions with him.
Doesn't collect anything.
Has the entire summer off.
It's always so damned difficult.
