Hi everyone,
I am new here. I am 5'3 and I weighted 220 pounds, over the past two years I lost 80 pounds. I do a lot of powerwalking, running and fitness. I have a low-carb diet, but its difficult to loose those last 10-15 pounds. My guess is that your body will resist at some point, I heard there are ways to trick your body. Does anyone have any ideas? Please let me know. And if you have any questions for me feel free to ask.

I've had a similar situation as you.
It is very hard to lose weight as you approach your goal weight. It gets harder and harder w/ each pound.
For me personally I had to be VERY strict. I really had to be a nazi w/ my eating and working out for about 3 months. And even then it came off super slowly. When you actually lose the weight it is easier to maintain and you won't have to be as strict (it helps to keep that in mind as you're working towards your goal).
If you think about it, you have to keep cutting out more and more and eating less and less if you want to keep losing.

I know exactly what you mean, in the summer its so much easier because you can go outside for a walk whenever you want, but the minute it gets colder you don't feel like working out or when you have a lot on your mind, losing weight will go slower...unfortunately that's the way it is. I don't want to eat less because I think that's unhealthy, I stick to 5 to 6 smaller meals a day. And as you said you have to push yourself. Thank you for your reply.

I have about 10-15 pounds to lose, and I think i could do that (if i actually started working out) but the last three are absolutely the worst. i have to basically eat nothing for two weeks and then slowly get back into my normal eating habits. I have really bad habits though.
I barely work out (I cna't find a gym I like) and then I eat at home a lot, which should be healthier, but is not when you consume a whole box of macaroni and cheese in one sitting, like I did last night.
But anyway, congrats on all you lost so far....jsut be very very strict the next few weeks until it's gone.

This is pretty helpful:

Using your current weight it can help you determine how many calories you need to remain the same and how many you need to lose weight. It also factors in working out, etc.

Yes I do J-girl...but unfortunately I cannot use the heavy weights for the arms and chest because I broke my thumb a few years ago and they discovered it to late and I have been walking around with this for years and it still hurts.

ooh that hurts- how about excercises that dont involve lifting- like bicep machines and tricep machine/ push ups pull ups/ ab excercises.
Starving your self is a short term solution to a long term problem. You are going to gain that weight back double.. whereas muscles have memory and they make it harder to gain weight in the long term..

Thank you! Oh Angyl, I don't work out in a gym....I used to though but there were too many people there and not enough machines etc..when you don't have time to go like I do, I work out at home or just go for a run instead.

I do ab, bicep and tricep exercises. Though lifting things is still a problem.

I have a similar problem (mostly I JUST CAN'T lose my extra tummy fat), but everything's I've heard recommends switching up your exercise. Can you join a kickboxing or martial arts class? Dance? Yoga? Something to work different parts of your body that aren't normally being exercised.

I know the feeling, tummy area is very difficult. I wish I could do kickboxing or martial arts because that can make you lose 5 pounds in one week, but I can't because of my hand, broke my thumb a few years ago and they discovered too late, and its still hurting bad. Dancing and yoga sounds fun. I have been thinking about doing Pilates myself.

Hi everyone,

Your body has adjusted to the low carb diet. Carbs are not the enemy. Calories and fat are. Switch up your eating habits. Eat some carbs and cut out some other stuff. I recently lost about 35 pounds. I didn't cut back on carbs. I just cut out the junk. Whole grains are key. Don;t eat any white bread or anything with bleached flour. All calories, no nutritional value.

I do eat carbs, and stay away from junk or fried food, white bread etc. I think I have to change my work out routine, because my body has adjusted to that.

I eat about six or seven meals a week, but am trying to cut down on my portin sizes.

Hey....
I just came home from my run and I thought lets weigh in, which I normally don't because it can be frustrating to see that the number on the scale isn't moving. This time I saw I lost 4 pounds in 3 days. It must be because I have to blend all of my food because I cannot chew on anything after my dentist visit....ouch  . I still eat 6 times a day and the food I am used to but only blended now. I am not saying it works for everyone, it works for me though.

That's not healthy. The less often you eat, the slower your metabolism gets. Eating less often is not the way to lose weight. I try to eat 4 small meals a DAY.
