Do you guys have as many people as I do that call and want to just freaking tell you their life story and chat on the phone? Some random person calls telling me he has pics of my boss and wants to send them to us, then refuses to take the address and goes off on how many people we know in common.
If I had time to listen to the story of all the people you've ever known, I wouldn't have to work, would I?
I try to shut them up by interrupting to get them to spit it out, but they talk over me!

Lately whenever I talk to people over the phone they just won't give me a blunt explanation, you know. A few weeks back I was with one of my usual clients, an elderly lady. She gets manicures done every few weeks & supposedly her manicurist, Cindie was suppose to by that morning. Cindie called really early to say that she couldn't it. Instead of just telling me she had to cancel & to reschedule she tells her this really long explanation that her son was having medical tests done & that one of the test was positive for something & so her son had to be admitted the hospital, blah, blah. I couldn't believe she was telling me her family conflict, I mean I did not need to hear that, plus that was way too personal. She wasn't blunt whatsoever.
And then few weeks after that I call my employer's office to tell them when my client's doctor's appointment was. When I called the person on the phone was new & when I asked for Winnie who is the head nurse & she's in charge of managing client's schedule, this new person gives me a long story that Winnie is no longer working & that Winnie wanted to go back to working f/t nursing hours so she just recently quit. First I was stunned I could always rely on Winnie & I thought she was working f/t, but apparently not. I couldn't believe she left without saying good-bye. So now there's a new nurse in charge. Anyway, this new person I spoke to over the phone gave me this long story about Winnie. I mean she could of been blunt by saying that Winnie is no longer working, that's all I needed to hear. Why do people have to do story tale stuff, when all they really need to too is be blunt & to the point. I don't have time to hear mumbo, jumbo stuff!!!! AGHHHHHH!!!

Yes, it's called working for a newspaper.
I cringe everytime I get somebody on the line with "Hey, I've got a REALLY GREAT STORY for you..."

No one ever calls me at work..but I do get a lot of IMs. I enjoy it though.

I know, I just find it really presumptuous that people assume you have a half an hour to spare all the time to listen to their little stories.

Yeah, when I call I usually ask people, "can you talk now?" before I delve into anything.

Exactly. Or, like these people who don't even know me and I've never spoken to before, pick up the clues I'm giving you in the conversation (not responding to most of what you're saying, asking you for your name and number repeatedly so I can take a message) that I don't have time to listen to every detail of some story!
IM is fine because I can talk on the phone or do other things and IM at the same time.
