ok. I am sure we have had a thread on this before, but I am too lazy to look.
i used to have an MP3 Player. Well ok, it was M's so when i left he got it back :( I would like to get an iPod/Mp3 player or something of that nature. What are good choices with reasonable prices and why are they good?
I have even thought about getting the portable satellite radio. ( Ihear Eminem has his own station  )
Help! My birthday is in a couple months and I thought I would get my request in early, or at least a request for gift certificates to the right store.

I think the IPod is the way to go... mostly b/c it seems like that's the market leader and it'll be easier for you find accessories, etc. I have a 30G IPod photo which holds about 7500 songs. How much music are we talking about here? Once you consider collection growth, you'll be able to determine what size IPod you'll need.
Satellite radio is nice, but depending on where you live, there may be some issues. I know friends who have it and have to change their route to work to maintain the signal... meaning, don't walk on a street between two tall buildings unless you want to hear only static. The other issues I've heard w/ satellite is that, like radio, there is a pre-programmed schedule. Meaning, you're still going to hear a lot of the same songs on a loop. Do you ever listen to yahoos music stations? Like that... I know that if I listen to the classic R&B station, I'm going to hear "100 Ways" by Quincy Jones at least twice a day.
I'm currently trying to determine how to install an iPod connection to the factory car stereo in my new Equinox. Anyone have any suggestions there? I'll be spending the day on ipodlounge.com, most likely. ;)

I won't be jumping on this bandwagon until/unless the price comes down. I'm like that.

I'm usually like that too, but i figure if I can get it, or most of the money for it as a gift there is no reason why i shouldn't splurge a little.

That is what I was afraid of wih the satelitte. :torn:

Oh, I'd totally take one as a gift. I'll take anything as a gift. I just won't be fronting the cash for one.

Yeah I won't be using my paycheck for it either. I have too many other things I need to use that for.

I don't get bonuses. :(

I want a pink mini-iPod. They are so cute, and you can get such neat little cases for them--even Louis Vuitton ones! ;)
Alas, I can't justify spending $250 on an iPod mini simply because I think they're cute.

I have a 40 gigabyte iPod (too bad they don't make this size anymore) and will soon be the proud owner of a 1 gigabyte iPod Shuffle. I wanted to get a 1 gigabyte USB memory key, and decided I might as well get one that plays music. The flash memory is much better for jogging and mountain biking than the moveable parts in a normal iPod or iPod Mini. I have to admit, I like the iPod Mini's form factor. I don't like that the highest capacty model is only 6 gigabytes. If the iPod Mini ever gets to 20, 30 or 40 gigabytes (and at some point it will) I will be adding one of them to my collection as well.

I agree. 40GB would have been ideal for me... MY 30GB is cutting it close, growth-wise, and 60GB would have been WAY too much for me. I wish the 40GB was available.

I don't know about the minis, but definitely for a regular-sized iPod! Hehe.

You can get a diamond-encrusted, 24-kt gold case for your Sony PSP. Why not bling out your iPod, too?

I think ipods are the way to go. The storage, function and iPod culture cannot be found with a Dell JukeBox or a Rio. The price is set by Apple so you don't have to worry about having to find the cheapest retailer. I recommend that you stay away from the mini, unless you really don't have a lot of music. I have a mini, and I thought there would be no way I could ever fill it up. It is one year later and I only have space for about 50 more songs. Oh, and get a warranty. I think they run between $30-$50. With it being a new technology and reports of battery problems, it is a good insurance.
Shimmer - the mini is now $199. They lowered the price, but excluded some accessories - mainly the charger.

I already have several hundred titles in my iTunes library, and I've only had this computer for a couple of weeks. I tend to rip entire albums, though.

See, I love CDs. I love liner notes, lyrics, artwork...
CDs are to me what records were to people pre-cassettes.

No, I don't have 7500 songs. I have about 5000 now, but that gives me a bit of a cushion for growth.

Yup, I think I saw Usher's and Puffy's Swarovski crytal-encrusted ones in some trashy mag. It's good to be bling.

An ipod is a great device and I totally recommend. I also like the ishuffle for uses such as running or walking or doing something where you dont need as many songs but are active and want something even lighter and smaller. The ipod mini is not really worth it in my opinion...but it is cheaper you don't as much for you money but some people like them a lot because of the colors and they are a little smaller with the screen.
Ipods are great. I got a 3g one and use it daily. I also have a photo ipod and an ishuffle. The ipod is durable. I didnt have a proctective cover or case for mine and it is been through a lot. Granted it has a few scratches but it's not too bad.
