View Full Version : The size thats a little big or the size thats a little tight?

Right now I am inbetween being a 6 and an 8. If I buy the size 6 its pretty tight in the waist, which is a bit uncomfortable. If I get the 8, then it fits perfectly in the waist, but there is quite a bit of extra room in the legs and ass area.

I don't know which one to get

I feel like this is a common problem for me. Do you err on the side of baggy or too tight?

if it's just a tad too tight, i go with the smaller size. then i get motivated to lose weight to fit into it. but i've been on a steady weight loss for nearly 4 years now, so that works for me. if you aren't concerned with losing weight, definitely get the bigger one and have it tailored down. there is nothing worse than a waist that's a bit too tight.

The legs/ass area in the smaller size fits like a glove..but it is definitely tight in the waist. Tight enough to push a tiny fat roll up, if ya know what i'm talking about. If I get the bigger size then the waist is perfect and I have a seamless silhouette.

In that case I say stick with the 8's.

See, I have the reverse problem. I'm between 8 & 10. 10's are too big in the waist, but fit my butt/thigh region. 8's fit PERFECT in the waist, but a tad too tight in the butt/thigh area. Clothes makers suck ass.

I agree. I mean, if something is a "slim fit" or "slender fit" or whatever then it should actually fit a woman who has no hips/ass (me!). But no, even those freakin' styles are baggy on me. So irritating. And the same should go for the Curvy fits. Idiots.

This is my exact problem! My ass is a lot bigger than my waist area. Sometimes I find 8's that fit and sometimes I have to go to the 10's. Usually if they are stretch material, I can do the 8's, but if not I go up to the 10.

What's it made of? If it's 100% cotton you better go with the larger size because it will shrink when you wash it.

Me personally, I don't buy it unless it fits right everywhere. But I'd prefer to err on the side of slightly too large than too small. Constricting clothes are no fun.

I would buy the 8. That's what I normally do. Occasionally I have gone with the smaller size and then I think it works for awhile or I figure perhaps I can lose a bit of weight (my problem is in the thighs) but the thing is even if you decide to lose a bit in one area that doesn't mean thats where you will lose it. And I think it is because clothes aren't made right. I don't really like tight fits either.

I say go with the bigger size in case of.....shrinkage. :p

Go with the 8. Ain't nothing wrong with an 8. See the thread on real women having curves for proof. Red beans and rice didn't miss her!

I'm also in the 8 and 10 category, usually more an 8. Generally I'll go with the bigger size if the size is off but every once in awhile i'll say screw it and attempt the snug one and end up regretting it. my problem though is all stomach; no ass.

Yeah I would agree with the shrinkage issue for cotton based pants.

Have you considered buying the smaller pants and then getting the waist altered? Depends. If the pants are an investment item it might be worth it to customize it at a tailors.

Thanks everyone for the input! I went back today and tried on both and this time the 6 fit perfectly!! I was freakin' amazed. I think it was a quality control issue or something. They fit perfectly everywhere. Yay! Plus, the went on sale!!!

I highly recommend these pants to anyone:

Cute!!!

Yea, I have the too big/too small problem. Usually I go with the bigger size to account for shrinking (apparently I am really good at shrinking things), unless it's so huge on me it fits like a tent.

The thing is, I dry clean everything so shrinkage is not an issue.

Just so you know, Kitty, (if I may interrupt you and And1) if you're talking about jeans at all, I have found that buying them one size small, meaning too tight, they stretch out and fit perfectly. This is especially true with Sevens, and I think it only applies to jeans with Spandex in it.

I am in Paige's category, stuck between an 8 and a 10. The 8 is perfect in the waist, but my baby-got-back feels a little claustrophobic.

I agree, although these aren't really jeans and the waist doesn't have elastic. However I did buy the 6 and so far, so good!

I always go with the bigger size...better too loose than too tight. Nothing worse than seeing people think that they can fit into smaller size clothing and you can see all their fat and stuff. Ugh, makes me sick to my stomach.

How was that low blow? I don't like people who wear their clothes too tight. It's just my opinion. I'm serious--I have friends who do this and I don't enjoy knowing what cut of underwear they have on.

And I did have a problem with your other post, but I didn't say anything because you wouldn't care. Especially coming from someone who would probably gross you out and all. Your comments about "fat" people are really nasty and insensitive...especially since you have admitted that you used to be overweight.

cheshrcarol

Okay. Yes, I was kind of offended. But come on, you said you were disgusted by fat people drinking coffee and eating dessert. Did you think that wasn't going to bother anyone? IMO what you said was much more of a low blow than our making a stupid joke about it.

I took it as a direct reference to my starbucks comment. Sorry if it wasn't. I am pretty sure that Carol's was, though.

I think its kind of rude to just assume I wouldn't care and therefore not say anything to me about it bothering you - especially since you argued w/ me and asked me to elaborate on my original statements in that thread. If you think I just don't care, why even bother?

I'm also sorry if I have offended you or anyone else. Yes, I was overweight and thats the reason that I feel like I can talk about it the way that I do.

I think you are taking what I said out of context and I also clarified that I find anyone eating too much of that stuff disgusting. And if you were so offended and outraged you should have said something in that post. At least I have the fucking balls to stand up for myself instead of just making cheap shots in other posts.

This is from me as the moderator:

Some of your posts have taken this "holier than thou" attitude about your weight loss and new healthy way of life. That's great that you managed to lose the weight, but everyone has a different battle to fight when it comes to weight loss. You also seem to put yourself out there as the martyr with the comments you make about food, whether it's abstaining from certain foods or eating this in place of that, etc. I really don't know if you realize this or not, but a LOT of your posts are centered around food and your weight loss...and it's bordering on obsession...like you are trying to prove something...

And it's not impressive...some members really feel alienated by your zeal.

The fact that you said it ONLY about fat people, originally, was not cool. It was only after I challenged you, did you say you found it disgusting no matter the size of the person eating...

At least I have the fucking balls to stand up for myself instead of just making cheap shots in other posts.I was going to respond the other day, but I didn't have time and then forgot about it today until I read this thread. I don't think anyone on here can reasonably question whether or not I have the balls to stand up about something. And I don't think you have that much disgust for just anyone, otherwise you wouldn't even go in to Starbucks. You are disgusted by FAT people. God forbid they not be a slave to calories and healthfoods.

As for my making cheap comments - come off it. It is the nature of these boards that we all make jokes or side comments in reference to what people say. Each thread is not an isolated vaccum unto itself.

Why? I was fat. I know how that shit feels and I know why I was fat and I have a whole freakin' set of opinions about it and I feel they are completely and totally justified because I HAVE BEEN THERE. I am disgusted at myself for letting myself get that way. I am angry at myself for being overweight all through high school and seriously risking my health. I am angry at both of my parents for being overweight and nearly killing themselves because of it. I am angry w/ society for this obesity problem. Maybe my comments are harsh, but I have a lot of emotions and feelings about this and they are what they are.

I really hope that when you see a fat person, you don't automatically assume that they are fat by their own making. Some people are, yes. But I know a girl who restricted her diet, worked out hours a day, was on meds and still couldn't lose weight. She had to have gastric bypass or she was going to die before the age of 30, because she had a metabolism slower than a snail.

The majority of society is unhealthy with their eating habits, yes. But just because someone is overweight, it does NOT mean they eat Big Macs everyday. Society is more unhealthy in the way we judge each other on looks/appearances than what we put in our mouths.
