View Full Version : Making Friends... Has anyone tried a social group?
I've been in Madison for 9 months now and only have about 2 friends + the bf. I'm thinking about joining a social group that has social activities like ski trips, volleyball games, and TGIF happy hours.
Has anyone tried this kind of thing before? Did it help you find some good friends? Any other recommendations for meetin' people to hang out with?

I've never tried it, but hey, it can't hurt. Do you have to pay to join?
The worst that could come out of it is you don't meet anymore friends, so you would be back where you started so there's really no negative to it.

No, but only because I'm moving around every couple of months for work. I would think you'd do alright with one that interests you, because I think they'd be like something you would have joined at college. I made some decent friends from rec sports and the like.
My other suggestion would be to do some volunteer work that you maybe inclined to do. Good way to network and give back and have fun.

I would do it if my area had anything like this.
Hm... maybe I'll give it a try.
My only other concern is that they advertise as being "primarily singles" so I don't know if that means totally single, or just not married.

I had looked into the meetup type places online to see if there was a group around. But it usually turns out that there are a bunch of people who sign up and disappear and everyone talks about getting together yet no one does. Oh and then there's the creepy 40yo thrown into the mix. I have had success with a book club though. It's tough to be new in town.
