Ditto klo! Only here it's only 1:45! AAAAGGGHH!!! I'm so bored, that I just keep eating snacks...
So is that weirdo still bothering you at work?
I'm ashamed that I can't think of anything exciting to talk about! Sad, isn't it? :googly:

Places travelled to is a good one. I love to travel and hope to do more in the next few years.
My favorite was Italy - Florence and Rome for a school art and music trip. In June, I'm planning to go to Taiwan with my bf for his brother's wedding. Anyone been to Asia?

I've been to Greece and to London, and highly recommend Greece, especially Crete. I hope to go to Asia someday! My mom's cousin lives in Tokyo with his wife and their two bilingual children. He would actually love for some of his relatives to come and expose their kids to the sounds of native English speakers. Hmmm.... maybe a "community service" project for the future ... Have a great time in Taiwan, AMB!

Ive been to Bermuda. My mom was born there and my grandparents still live there.
I like to go to Newport..not over seas..but like a totally different world....there are trashy parts no one knows about and those are mostly the locals...those who visit are really elite...lol I love tourist watching.

I've been to Paris and Switzerland--I went when I was a senior in HS w/ my choir. Paris was okay--but I think it's completely overrated. They were so rude to us. Switzerland is BEAUTIFUL. So relaxing and calming. Our hotel was right on Lake Geneva and when we had free time we would walk all through the town (Montreaux) and it was fantastic! I'd go back in an instant!!! I'd love to travel some more though...not right now, not in this world we're living in! I'm going to Florida in June with 3 of my former college roomies. I haven't been on vacation since my trip to Europe in HS--that's what happens when you're in college and work all summer and on your breaks. I haven't been to Florida since I was 10! I can't wait, especially with this horrible New England winter we've had!!!

I have never travelled anywhere exciting :( Update on the weirdo at work. I had my radio playing and he got a song stuck in my head and said "that song you were playing is noe stuck in my head...and proceeded to hum it over and over again." fun fun fun! Has anyone see "The Hours" yet? I just finished reading the book (AMAZING!) But I am always skeptical to see a movie after I read the book cause it always sucks!
Hooray! Its now 3:30pm and I am still bored and basically not doing any work. Has Spring fever hit anyone else besides me? I am so sick of rain and snow and it being cold!!!!

klo,
I've had cabin fever all winter, so I am so ready for spring!
I hate when you get annoying songs in your head. If I get a crappy song in my head, I try to have a backup song that I really like to combat the bad song.
I have not seen The Hours, what is it about?
As far as travelling goes, my friend really recommends Ireland, she said she would love to move there, very peaceful.

Studied Spain and visited England. The best trip I ever took was to Bear Run, PA all by myself. It was so relaxing not having to please someone else. If I wanted to take the back roads, I did, no searches for the next fast food chain to eat at. Fallingwater was cool, although I was the youngest person there. All retirees whao had recently become expert art critics after seeing the PBS special on Frank Lloyd Wright. Anyone else enjoy trips alone?

The Hours is based on Virginia Woolf's Mrs. Dalloway (which is about a woman getting ready for a party in one day). The hours has 3 main characters Virginia Woolf (set in her lifetime), Mrs. Brown (set in the 1960s), and Mrs. Dalloway (set in present time). Anyway, and basically its about how these women are basically not satisfied with their lives and want to change it. Virginia Woolf is in the process of writing Mrs. Dalloway, Mrs. Brown is reading Mrs. Dalloway, and Mrs. Dalloway (her real name is Clarisa, which is the name of the character in Mrs. Dalloway) is like the character in the book, which is why they call her Mrs. Dalloway.
I really enjoyed it. My mom won't read it cause she thought the movie trailers looked depressing. Anyway, the author, Michael Cunningham brings all three characters together at the end in a really cool way. I highly recommend it :)

klo,
Oh, it's that one, I saw the preview. It did look a little depressing..but does sound like an interesting story line.
State,
I have never taken a solo trip (besides work trips for trade shows). For some reason, I think I would be too scared to be alone with myself :) It sounds great though!

I used to go camping in Bear Creek, PA when I was younger with my dad and sister in a group we belonged to. I have also been to Falling Waters and wasn't real impressed with it. My family is from Pittsburgh and they were always telling me how cool it was but it was ok. Is anyone an amusement park fan? I am a fanatic when is comes to roller coasters. My favorite is Millenuim Force at Cedar Point (steel) and The Thunder Bolt (wooden) at Kennywood Park. Anyone else have favorites?

What's the weirdest place you guys have been to?
I've travelled all over, but the weirdest place would have to be a tie between Rovaniemi, Finland (it's on the Arctic Circle), and Ile Ste. Marie off the coast of Madagascar. Not exactly places you can chat about with your friends, which sucks :googly:

Alexander, Maine. I bet NO ONE knows where in Maine that is. SOOOOO desolate....

The weirdest place was an awful UFO museum in Wisconsin Dells, WI. It was so terrible, it was expensive and all it had was fake alien dolls and some photos hanging on the wall.
I think the Corn Palace in Mitchell, SD is a little weird as well!

Carlisle, PA (where I went to college) is weird. When deer hunting season starts, the kids have off from school cause its like a holiday there!

Yes, the entire outside of the building is plastered with Corn! Rejoice! The inside is actually pretty boring.

Well now that I've seen it, "The World's Only Corn Palace" doesn't sound like much of a claim to fame anymore. Does the world really need two corn palaces? Ha ha.
AMB25
03-21-2003, 05:29 PM
Well, Kasia, you could create the first Canadian corn palace. I think the one in the U.S. needs a little competition! Maybe the corn palace is the key to world peace.

A smashing idea in theory... but I have a feeling that if we tried to build a corn palace in certain countries, it would be eaten. Kind of like the gingerbread house and Hansel/Gretel except hardly a fairy tale story. Plus, if it got hot enough, wouldn't the corn pop? Then we'd just have a mess on our hands.

I missed the inside of the Corn Palace when I was there, they were buffing the floors. Dame the luck. Glad to hear I didn't miss much. Before I saw the palce I actually though it was going to be physically built entirely out of corn, not just murals out of corn. It was pretty cool to see pictures made from corn though.

Dang, i guess the corn palace won't save the world then, back to plan B.
The inside of the "palace" is really just a big gymnasium. They have some photos of it being built and things like that. It has been a while since I was there though, so maybe it's better now. Did you get the chance to see Wall Drug though State?

I was asking StateNAurora if they had seen Wall Drug. It's another place in South Dakota not too far from the Corn Palace.

I did get to see Wall Drug, but only for ten minutes. We arrived at Wall Drug just before it was about to close. After seeing all the signs that day it was very anti-climactic. I would have liked to stayed the night but my friends were in a rush to get to Seattle. I'd like to take another trip across the country, this time taking my time to look around.

How about Jay Leno's Tonight web page? He has the archive of all his crazy headlines/sales ads--the ones that are true, not fake. Conan's are all fake.
