what I am really afraid of is the first day. i'm pretty sure I'm gonna cry. I just have to try to tough it out until I am back home so I don't make her cry too.

Tina, I gotta be honest...I'd lose it. I'd be a sissy-la-la. Good luck! Such the milestone! ;):

her first day is monday.
heather- trust me I'll be sissy-la-la all day. I took the day off just in case.
There have been times where I have noticed certin things, like how tall she is, or how grown up she sounded when she said something, and about lost it. This is gonna be huge.
M will be there to to aggrivate the hell out of me, but I can't block him from her first day of school.

Congrats Tina and same to your little girl!!!! :huge:
I'll be there next year and I know I'll cry, but I'll wait till I get back in the house like my mom did. It's hard enough knowing that someday they'll grow up into....US...ugh.

All I am asking is that I make it to my car before I spring a leak

((Tina)) awwww...smile! And don't worry - you'll make it to the car.
And don't feel overly bad - my mom apparently cried when I started my job. I was 24. Yes - last year.

LOL!!! I gotta say I would've thought my mom had a screw loose if she had done that. Atleast I know I'm not alone on this crying thing.

Aww, Tina...even when my parents dropped me off at college, my mom wanted to cry. But she waited until they got into the car...I really thought she was going to cry infront of me too. She put on this brave face and was like, "Well, we have to go. We'll talk to you soon," hugged me, and walked out of the dorm.
I found out a few months later that she cried as soon as my dad started the car! LOL

Yeah but not infront of her! She might be thinking that going to school is making her mom sad, and then she won't want to go, thinking that if she stays home it will make her mom happy. Crying in front of kids on their first day is really traumatic. My mom has had to pull kids off of their parents...it's not good for anyone.

My bad my bad...I guess I assumed when I said crying that the crying would be out of her daughter's sight. Totally agree with what you said. Sorry.

Tina, is she excited about going? I know I was. I think that's b/c my mom really talked it up, and I got a new pretty dress and we took pictures to send to my grandmother in RI, etc. I remember just hopping up on that bus and never looking back!

she is thrilled about going to a "new" school. Since she switched her daycares with no problems I don't see a problem looming in the horizon unless I make a big deal out of it.
As for pics. No pics of getting on the bus for the first time. Her dad and I are going to drive her there on her first day, but there will be plenty of first day pics.
She got all new school clothes down to her socks, shoes, new backpack.. everything. pretty much put me in debt with clothes and school supplies, but its worth it. Its making her that much more excited about going. I haven't let her wear her new clothes, so they have been hanging in her closet calling her name.

Awwwww!!! See, you are all set! :)
And that's good that she's been to daycare, so she's been "away" from you before...her daycare experience will make her an old pro! (you should see the kids who go to Kind. never being away from their mommies...it's CRAZY...like, these kids never went to nursery school, day care, bible school, NOTHING...they totally FLIP out.)
LOL about the no wearing school clothes thing. I used to HATE when my mom said that!
Good luck Tina, you and A. will be FINE :)

tina - can't wait to hear how it goes.
my mom just told me this story about how my dad was the one to take me to my first day of kindegarten. i guess he came home all pissed cause he was expecting to have a "moment" and a lot of the other kids were crying. apparently i was like "bye daddy!" and then took off practically skipping. that cracks me up... he and i have never seen eye to eye!

kita- thats kinda how A is now. Shes been in daycare so long it'll be a breeze for her. She doesn't understand the milestone it is.
Jen- I was one of those kids. I think I had gone to some sort of daycare for a while, but by the time I was school age my mom had quit her job and was babysitting so she could be home with me and my sister. Yeah! Apparently that didn't make so good for a first day of kindergarden. And to top it off (I was scarred for life) I turned 5 the 2nd day of school and they did the birthday spankings. I paniced. I thought I was in trouble. I actually still remember that day 20 years later.

Thats one thing I remember very clearly about Kindergarten- my parents dropping me off. I remember clinging to my dad's leg and crying out aloud. I am getting teary eyed just thinking of that scenario.

HAHAHAHAHA...I think I came home and was like, "Um NO ONE knows how to read but me. I'm bored." The beginning of a long long road for my parents, lol.

We went to an orientation this morning. Aeryn's first day will not be monday like I thought, but it will be on Thursday for "Camp insert school name". They are taking different groups of kindergardeners each day next week. Then the week after she starts going all week.

Yeah, I've heard of districts doing this now...it's to help the school orient ONE class of new kids on one day, instead of like 200 kindergarteners wandering through the halls on the first day of school, with the older kids running around crazy and being kids.

my middle school and high school did something similar. like one day one grade would go for their "first day" and then the next day another grad would go until like the fourth day and then everyone would start.

In kindergarten, I went on the bus. I've been going to "school" since I was two, so I don't remember many first days as being such a big deal.
But yay for you, tina. That's exciting :).

OK...I've been out of town for a couple of days, but here is the official update.
She went to school for Camp (insert school name) on thursday. They basically took two groups of kids Monday through Thursday to evaluate them and place them with the teachers they thought would fit and to make sure that not all bad or good kids were put in the same class, overloading the teacher. She cried. The teacher literally had to pry her off of me. the teacher would get her arms off of me then she would wrap her legs around mine. I had tears in my eyes and my throat was closing up. Afterwards I met a mom who was dropping off twins. She was just as upset as I was but it was because her kids pretty much waved and said bye mom.
Today I took her to her first "official" day. I met her teacher. She has kindergarten teach written all over her. She is a little old lady with glasses. She seems really nice, so we can only hope. Today, Aeryn was Singing Miss so-n-so is my teacher all the way up to the school doors. When we got to her room she froze. It was like a deer caught in head lights. We found her name on the door and her name tag on her seat and her name on the hook to hang her back pack. She didn't really want to let me go. She sat in her seat and kept a death grip on my hand. as I pulled my hand out of hers she stood up and I thought all hell was gonna break loose. She just puckered up her lips, gave me a kiss and a hug and sat back down. She took out her crayons and started coloring on her name tag (per the teacher).
Now I wanna cry...

Aww Tina- That made me cry too. I am sure she'll do great. She seems like a strong kid.
On the other hand this thread is reminding me of my first day at kindergarten.
