Well, I confirmed it last night. Ms Ally Ginsberg has fleas. They're all over my desk and my bed and probably my house.
Good news? I've developed a plan to get rid of the fuckers.
Bad news? it means buying meds from my vet and buying a vaccuum cleaner and other stuff I do'nt really have cash for.
BOOOO!!

ewww that sucks! I remember one time at my parents old house we had get an exterminator for fleas in the carpet! That was the worst, we could really walk around in bare feet for awhile or sit on the carpet.

my cats would get fleas all the time in san francisco. they were indoor then too. sf i notorious for fleas.i have never had fleas that were that bad. i am able to take care of them by giving the cats some meds, vacuuming & throwing out (far away out, like dumpster) the bag, & wash all bedding.

We had a flea infestation once. It was horrible. My mom bought this powder, which is basically boric acid. The commercial name is Flea Stoppers. Anyway, we sprinkled it all over the carpet, took a broom and kind of pounded it into the carpet. You let it sit for 24 to 48 hours then vaccuum it up. It was amazing. We had no more fleas. You can also use it as a preventive measure by doing this in the spring before it gets warm out. The other upside is that it's non-toxic and won't hurt you or your cat.

I'm jsut really pissed becuase I have NO idea where they came from! Ally is totally an indoor cat, she's never been outside. I can't even remember the last time iwas outside in the wilderness. Gar.

How long have you been in your apartment? Sometimes you can have a delayed outbreak if the previous tenants had pets. It sucks but has been known to happen.

My ex and I had the same problem with her cat when we first got it. We bombed the house twice and still had trouble getting rid of them.
My suggetion, pour gas all over the carpet, get near the door, light a match and run. Oh, and don't forget to notify the neighbors that they should probably leave too.

you can bring them in on your clothes. also, eggs can lay dormant for years in carpeting.

That's boric acid, and should work just like the stuff I mentioned above. The Flea Stopper stuff has an added orange thing mixed in. I don't know if that helps or just makes it smell better.

GOOD NEWS: drsfostersmith.com sells frontline cheaper than COST. my mom is a pharmacist and has access to some prescription-only pet meds and it's cheaper to get it from that website than it is for her to get it at cost! and obviously, cheaper than the vet will charge.

I go to the vet hospital in Petco for my flea meds - that way no vet visit. My dog had then really badly a while back, my cat too but they never left the animals and there are no fleas in the apartment (woohoo!!)
I've heard (and done it, it seems to work really well) that if you hold your animal in water for about 10 minutes it drowns the fleas. Those fuckers can live through almost anything - but I've done that and it seems to take the life right out of them

doesn't get rid of the eggs though. and you have to get the head first because the fleas head for the ears.
you also have to do the flea treatment 2x to kill the adults the first time & then when the eggs hatch.
