Now they are making a movie of the epic "Beowulf" and she's gonna play some queen. This is one of the most important stories of Western history...and they are making a MOVIE about it??? Crazy.

Didn't The Thirteenth Warrior with Antonio Banderas have something to do with the Beowulf story?

Wasn't Chrisopher Lambert in one of them?

Are you people FOR REAL???
How do you NOT love a story where the hero rips off Grendel's arm and beats him with it? I LOVE Beowulf. I'm naming my kid Beowulf--no one will mess with him. And Angelina Jolie is HOT. This HAS to be a great film!!!!

Beowulf is one of my all-time favorites. I've written numerous essays and reasearch papers on it.
If they fuck it up in movie form, I will be pissed.
And I hate Angelina Jolie, so I'm thinking they're going to fuck it up.

Well at least it beats another crappola TV show spin-off or sequel!
Plus Jolie is a little too young to play Jocasta. Although listening to the play of Oedipus Rex was soooo boring it beats any soap opera. It is the original soap opera - it does not get more f*cked up than Oedipus! Killing your father, marrying your mother, poking your eyes out...
Never read Beowulf. Now I might never have to! Yay! Though I am now thinking of calling my next dog Beowulf now. Sic him Beowulf... Tee hee...

Hah. Believe it or not, I know a kid named Beowulf. I'm pretty sure he gets pounded on regularly on the merit of his name alone, actually. Evidently ancient literary references as baby names are a good way to ensure your kid gets picked on.

Really?! I would just call him Wolfie for short.
That is why I would stick to naming my dogs with names like that. It sure beats Spot, Ralph or Rover.

Don't worry, they will. They'll probably put a talking monkey in it. A monkey who's trained as a navy SEAL. And at the end he gets the last joke. "Oh Navy SEAL monkey!! You're the grooviest!!"

And then a thick fog will roll into the scene, and Scooby Doo will cut out a fog donut with his nail and eat it while the laugh track takes us to the credits.

I was going to comment - but I'm at a loss.
Angelina is either like a bad car accident that you HAVE to look at....or she's just kinda the odd circus freak that isn't bad to look at.....but you still want to look at for an extended period of time - like the bearded woman or something.

My dog is Grendel. He's afraid of the dishwasher.
My cat is Grendel. He drinks out of the running kitchen sink faucet... but he's afraid of the African Grey parrot (Leopold).

I love the story - but read Grendel by John Gardner before I read Beowulf so everything was a little off for me ... I kept thinking, "no, don't you get it! he's just misunderstood!"

Hmmm...
If I had two dogs what pretentious names should I call them:
1) Loki and Odin
2) Beowulf and Grendel (have not read the story - think they would make great dog names! esp Beowulf)

Wouldn't it be really ironic if he got lost.
WB does that count as a Jewish joke?

How is Grendel pretentious? At least it's not "Princess", "Mercedes"... or some shit like that.

I meant pretentious in a literary snob way.
Princess, Mercedes are more boring names than pretentious ones.

I thought I paid her a compliment by saying she is still too young to play Jocasta - the ultimate MILF of all time! I mean she is a MILF but still not old enough to have a son that can accidently marry her after killing his daddy...

If I liked cats, I'd get two and name them Scott and Zelda. Fitzgerald just lends itself better to cats than dogs.

Oh I HATED the Metamorphosis!!!!! One of my professors of a literature class I took in college loved it, and so we spent a ton of time talking about it UGH. And before an exam we had to write what our favorite or least favorite piece was leading up to the test, and I just HAD to say how much I hated the story.
