View Full Version : Name One Good Thing That Happened Today...
I feel like I'm repeatedly suggesting to QLC'ers that they should try and appreciate the smaller pleasures in life. I absolutely believe that noticing small, positive things every day will lead to a more positive outlook on life.
To test the theory, I'm asking QLC'ers to post ONCE A DAY one positive thing that happened. If it's a big one, great, but I'd encourage looking for small things. A really moist scone, a bunch of green lights in a row, a satisfying finish to a book you read...
The only rule is it had to have happened in the last 24 hours.
To start us off:
Today I cleaned my windows at the gas station, and I noticed my rear windshield was the cleanest it has been in weeks. And it looked practically perfect in my rear view mirror.

Good things:
1) Today: last Thurs. night, my boss needed me late. I was supposed to have dinner with a friend in Queens. He told me that if she'd be willing to come out and dine with me in Manhattan, the client would pay for both our meals. We ended up going to an Indian restaurant, and the tab came to $80, which I thought was too much to charge the client. But today my boss told me it was fine, he'd pick up the whole tab, etc., since I'd been so dedicated and rearranged my life to be there till all hours (he is SO nice!).
2) Yesterday: Sunday, one of my roommates bolted the apartment (long story). A friend of mine who'd had an interest in the place came down to meet my other roommate, and she's leaning toward taking it, which means we can get the lease situation resolved since, unlike the girl who bolted, she has real income.

I just avoided being in a wreck this morning. something told me to keep going through the yellow light, so I kept going. NExt thing I know I hear squeeling tires and I look in my review mirror to see a truck had to slam on his break so as not to slam into the car (in the lane next to me) that had decided to stop at the yellow light (he had to hit his breaks pretty hard not to run it to begin with) anyway, as the truck is sliding to a halt the driver had to turn the wheel and his cab ended up where I would've been. I tried an Oatmeal Pancake recipe from the SB cookbook this morning and it came out really yummy!!
I got extra sleep from snoozing the alarm while my wife was in the shower, then went to Peet's for coffee and a muffin, and still made it to work right on time! Somehow I also found the time to stop by the bank to make a deposit. And the muffin was so fucking good! I think time stopped while I was commuting.
I am in such a great mood right now. Oh, and they announced this big company-wide meeting in fifteen minutes. I'm totally curious what it is. It's not layoffs (it's not Thursday), so who knows what it is. Probably nothing exciting, but who doesn't love a little bump in the routine?

I finally picked up the film I put in to develop a couple of days ago... and it looked great! It was a picture of my *major* crush (ahem, only a friend) with his arms wrapped around me. I was giddy and happy and beaming and smiling when I got the picture, and I got funny looks from folks around ...I think it's probably because I couldn't wipe that stupid grin on my face. :bigger:
I think whenever I am down, I should look at the picture.
*sigh* having a crush tears me apart sometimes (since he doesn't know how I feel, and if he does, he's certainly not doing anything about it). Still, seeing him or just talking to him makes me feel like I'm on on cloud nine. On top of the world. The world just seemed to have more colour. Having crushes is a pain and a blessing and I honestly don't know which category it falls into right now.
Okay, I'll stop before I sound pathetically corny. But I love the picture! ( We totally look like a couple...LOL :D one of my friends once said that we'd make a good couple (out of the blue!) and she didn't even know I like him at the time!) She's a pretty good friend, but I was certainly surprised when she asked me if I liked him...I am surprised some people could just tell!
I didn't know a photo could make me so happy. What IS wrong with me?
*End of obsession*

Reason #357 why I love first-graders: I was having a really crappy day, really nervous about first-year stuff and today as I'm walking back from the office reading really crappy mail, I get knee-hugged by a trio of first graders with big smiles and they said in chorus "we love you" with the utmost sincerity. Was it prompted? I don't think so. First-graders are wonderful people. That was my shining moment for about 39 seconds. The rest of the day was pretty much crap. I'll explain later.

This is a great thread, it beats the hell out of the whining that takes place all too often. Let's not forget that as bad as we think we have it, we must be better off than a lot of the world. We're griping about our problems on the internet which, let's face it, is a $30-$50/month habit on computers that cost more than our parents' first cars.
Anyway, enough of that rant.
Here's a good thing that happened today,
My Boss actually laughed and talked with me like I was a real person and not some pain-in-the-ass that he has to deal with because it's his job.
And an even better thing happened, I made the discovery that while getting the salad instead of the fries at Wendy's is a healthier choice, I'll never choose salad over fries again! :huge:

Very nice.
This morning, I had the perfect breakfast (IMO, of course): a moist, lightly sugar-coated strawberry scone and a Peet's traditional cappuccino (that is, single shot [espresso forte], 8 oz. of whole milk steamed to 160 deg., served in a ceramic demitasse cup, with the milk poured unseparated to allow the espresso to blend with the drink top to bottom). It was just about perfect. The shot was brewed just a little short to add a touch of sweetness to it. And I got to spend it with my wife, just enjoying her company and relaxing before heading to work.
I managed to complete a difficult pose in yoga! :)

I agree with your sentiment (Even though personally, you can't judge a person's finances by their being online; I only have computer and net access at work, because I'm too poor to have either at home :D)!! But, at least I do have a job that affords me limitless net access on a $1,500 computer, neither of which I have to pay for. So, yeah, I'm pretty well off in that sense!

This is like out of the ordinary good! My mom just sent me an e-mail saying that she and my dad reserved a 2-bedroom, 2-bath condo at the beach the weekend of fall break and invited me and my husband to come up and stay with them. That was so nice of her! We haven't been to the beach in a long time, and I had also been disappointed because my parents didn't get to come down and visit us at all this summer, so this will be a great way to visit with them.

It's a cliche, but I do think it's the little things that you have to pay attention to, that help you realise that life is worthwhile. That's what I keep thinking when I read this thread. You can't keep waiting for the 'big victories' to keep you happy, by that I mean having an ace career, or finding the love of your life, or whatever your ultimate goals are. Just simple things like being able to make someone laugh, or really appreciating where you are. I'm guessing that a million people have already come to this conclusion already and expressed it far more eloquently, so I'm sure you know what I mean.
The only reason I thought about this was because I had some spare time today. Like 'real' spare time to be left alone with my thoughts. It hadn't occurred to me that I spend virtually zero time alone with my own thoughts. I'm always listening to the radio or reading something, I always have some sort of mental stimulus going. Partly because I'm trying to block out the environment, partly because I'm trying to be super efficient. It's kinda scary, sometimes. It's like climbing a really tall ladder: you're fine if you just focus on the rungs and keep stepping on up and up, this is what you do to distract yourself. But the minute you stop and look down, you think 'jeez, what am I doing to myself?'
Anyway, sorry to jack this thread with my delerious ramblings.

I am still abit annoyed about the mix-up. What the heck else does HR do but interview and schedule ppl for interviews? Today I looked at a picture that I took back in May. After cringing, I noticed that yes I have lost some weight. I was beginning to think all my exercising was not paying off bc there was a very gradual change over time. Then again I did not gain like 30-40 lbs over night either. That is good too.
Hopefully I will lose another 20 lbs or so by keeping up the exercise and cutting certain bad food habits. After last post, did 4 miles in under 40 minutes time. So I can now break the 10 min mile thing pretty consistently.
Oh yeah way to go on the finger push-ups. Owww....
I had lunch with two people I work with, whom I see all the time but had never met until recently. Turns out, they're geeks like me so we joked about WoW and Trivial Pursuit the whole time. Seriously, more fun at lunch than I've had in a long time.

I saw Green Day last night and they rocked! 47,000 fans poured into SBC Park...it was awesome. And our seats were great.
The coolest thing happened, Green Day pulled up three random people out of the crowd to "fill in" for them. Billy Joe walked along the edge of stage asking if anyone knew how to play the drums, the bass and the guitar. He picked three people, brought them on stage to play through the end of the song while Billy Joe sang. It was fuckin' awesome. All I could think was, "How can I learn an instrument and get to the front of the stage in the next 10 seconds?"

I am sufficiently rested for the first time in weeks. Of course, it comes at the cost of having spent literally the almost the entire weekend in bed. Asleep.

The guy that I have been dating the past couple of weeks changed my oil and rotated my tires sunday. he said he is going to buy me two more tires and fix my strut mounts as well because one of them is broken. When I argued with him about the fact that I can't afford all that he told me to stop Arguing because I have a 5 year old to worry about and he would take care of it.

Damn, Tina, hold onto him. I've yet to find a guy that wouldn't slam a door in my face.
Erm, my good thing, let's see, my boss isn't a big gigantic ball of stress anymore because our deadline got bumped back so he's not ridiculous to deal with. (I still get more done when he's NOT there though)

Lily- you need to come down here to. He opens car doors and doors at the restaurant, and wouldn't even let me pay for lunch when I offered. He'd payed for dinner the night before.

Love that store. I bought a suit from there on Sunday for $45. I had a $30 off coupon, the jacket was $20 off and the pants, half off!

Ok, this happened yesterday but whatever. I went to see the show Stomp (which was kickass) and one of the performers were so hot I would have threw my panties on stage if it were appropriate.
Anyway, they were collecting money for Katrina victims after the show and I personally went up to him and told him I thought he was smoking hottt and he thanked me and shook my hand! :)

I went to the mall for the first time since the new expansion opened. There is a new Banana Republic Petites store. Not just a petite corner with a few racks of clothes--not that the existing store had even that--but a full store down the hall from the regular Banana Republic with nothing but PETITES. Wheeeee!
The first weekend of my play went exceptionally well. My mother-in-law threw a big party for me on Saturday night and it was tons of fun.

A whole store of petites? That is good news. They should make more of these!

I need this thread today!
I woke up and am no longer sick!
I've decided to start listening to my body and accept that sometimes I need to take it easy. I'm grateful that my job permits me the flexibility that I need.
I made plans to hang out with a girlfriend whom I haven't seen in weeks tomorrow night!

Supreme Court Rulings Release Day!
Every Wed. at work, a mass email goes out with the latest decisions. To celebrate (yeah, I am a complete nerd), I go get some Starbucks and spend the last half hour of work reading about attorneys' suspensions and indiscretions. Some are laugh-outloud funny. Mostly it is a somewhat pleasant reminder that things could be much, much worse. Today was a delightful combo, featuring a pervy lawyer and a nonfat latte!

My good thing today was I got to have lunch with one of my coworkers that left my group a few months ago. It was nice to chat and gossip about work, and also to get away from work for an hour.

Woo hooooooooooooo!!!!
So, I just renewed my insurance policy recently. I was paying so much because I had been placed back in a "high risk" pool since I had a car off the road since 1999. In any event, I just called up Geico for shits and giggles to see how much they could save me. Get this! I was paying close to $3000 per year for insurance, they got me down to a little under $1200 per year. I think this is the best news I have heard in awhile, especially since my car sits in the same spot all week now since I take the subway into work. It also includes 24 hour road-side assistance and rental cars for $30/day in case I get into an accident or something. YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My good thing for the day is that despite the fact I only got 5 hours of sleep last night I had some really deep sleep with a lot of dreaming and so today I feel very lucid and together. Plus I'm putting away a lot of lose ends at work so hopefully I'll be all caught up by the end of today. :)

It's Friday and I'm almost out from under the managers for two whole days.
We are also going pumpkin picking tomorrow, and I have an invite to see movies with friends tonight. Okay, get drunk and then watch movies (I hear they've picked some frightfully bad ones...).
