Okay yesterday while at work my throat started to hurt. I thought nothing of it because I had eaten something and thought that was the reason why it was hurting. Well all through the evening and last night til right now my throat still hurts! I don't have a cold or running nose or anything else like that, so I don't know if I'm getting sick or not. I bought cough drops this morning so that I don't cough as much when my throat gets all dry. It hurts when I cough and a little bit when I swallow.
Other than gargling salt water (which I'll do once I get home) what else can I do to make it go away? I'm hoping I don't have to go to the doctor. I hope it doesn't hurt tomorrow because I'm going to the ASU/USC game and I know I'll be screaming and yelling and stuff, but if my throat still hurts I can't do that.

Is it the beginnings of a cold? If you think it is, I would suggest Airborne or Zicam, and use it consistently and it'll cut down the duration of the cold. If I take it at first signs of a cold, when I get the sore throat, after half a day my sore throat is gone. But you have to be consistent about it.

I have to say I've never been to the doctor for a sore throat (unless it's swollen and strep or tonsilitis or something like that). But the average, run of the mill sore throat? Nah.
I get them when the weather changes, and in accordance to what pollen is in the air, etc. I've got a bit of one right now. I just soothe with cough drops and throat drops till it's gone.

Ewww yeah forgot to mention. Any kind that you have use in your mouth is NASTY NASTY NASTY. You'll wanna stick to the nose swabs or spray.

For me a sore throat always leads to a cold :(
It doesnt go to well with my body if I try to suppress it with medication. That really sucks!

I don't think you need to go to the doctors over a sore throat. Just try to rest, eat chicken noodle soup (which actually does help!) and hopefully it will go away.

it also sounds like a bit of a case of strep throat (which may require a visit to Dr. Tongue.......)

Usually with strep you'll also have a fever, feel REALLY crappy (worse than a cold)...

It could also be the dry air out in Phoenix. I use to get a lot of sore throats. Try and drink a lot of water. And I will be watching the ASU game as well. It will either be really good, or over by halftime.
I would recommend the Vick Chloraseptic spray(not the blue kind, it tastes bad) followed by mouthwash, and then brush your teeth and tough. It will make it go numb for a while. Then use the Cepacol Maximum Strength lozenges every 2-4 hours. (The red kind is pretty good)

So my sore throat has now developed into a stuffy nose and cold! I hate being sick especially in 100 degree weather. I'm staying indoors as much as I can today. Though I still need to do laundry, and buy more medicine at the drug story. This is one of the down falls of living by yourself - you gotta do everything on your own, healthy or not.
I'm not sure if I'm going into work tomorrow. I may just stop by and take some work home with me. I think I got sick because of my long hours and work, lack of sleep, and overall just been doing more than I should. One of my co-workers was sick he recovered quickly and wasn't as sick as me. I was fine at the ASU/USC game other than being five shades darkers as a result of sitting in direct sunlight for most of the game. I just woke up this morning (more like 12 noon) and felt like crap!!
I hate being sick.

Feel better! I'm sure your instincts are dead on about needing more sleep and doing less work ;)

Thanks, Jen . . . nothing like calling in sick on a Monday . . . and really be sick!!! It's about 100 degrees outside today and I'm sick with a cold and sore throat. I hate being sick when it's hot outside. I'm also working from home, which means the hours I'm actually working I don't have to use my sick time. Anyone want to go to the store for me and pick up some Sudafed? :)
