Just saw McCaine speak on TV - I really respect him. He is fighting to remove corruption from politics - anyone have an opinon on campaign finance reform? I can't believe anyone could say SOFT MONEY is protected under the FIRST AMMENDMENT - it's blatantly campaigning for candidates to push through an agenda!

I agree - its difficult to remove implied influencing of elections. There are all types of loyalties and considerations a pol has to make.

But I believe McCaine was burned enough in South Carolina when Bush used all the money he had to narrow out McCaine and take the nomination.

It seems this great Seantor from Arizona vowed he would prevent that kind of injustice to happen again, and since has fought to make the election process more fair.

A great book "THE BEST DEMOCRACY MONEY CAN BUY" discusses the cost of an election - and how it subverts our democracy so blatantly.

As for getting "used to it," we all grew up under Reagan, Bush I, and Clinton - so this awful system of electing officials is all we have ever seen. But just as it seemed desegregation, woman's suffrage, fair labor laws, etc could never see the light of day - they eventually did - so there is always hope.

BTW - I told you my personal story, in the other thread - you didn't say anything? ;)

Did I freak you out?
