Me too. I just realized that is why it is so slow on the boards this morning. Everyone is probably sleeping in!

Me too. The train was great this morning. Almost no one on it, but I would have rather had the extra hours of sleep.

I'm at work.
It's MISERABLE outside too and I had the hardest time getting out of bed.

Yes, this weather completely sucks. I knew this was going to happen here. It goes from being really really nice to being really really shitty instantly. I must say though that no one on the train this morning was such a pleasure.

I'm here too. I actually don't mind too much because this is the first time in weeks traffic in the morning hasn't been a nightmare.

Me too! Actually, my office faces Fifth Avenue and I'll be able to see the Columbus Day Parade when it marches by starting at around noon.
Columbus Day just never really made it for me as a holiday...kind of like Groundhogs Day or Arbor Day.

Holiday schmoliday.
I'm at my desk. Better question who has the day off? Besides people at Verizon, I already know they're closed.

Everybody that's not on today. They're probably still in bed.

I really don't even have much to work on today, so it's gonna be long and slow...

I posted this on the bad things thread, but I made my classic holiday monday blunder...forgot that it's a holiday, and held off contacting some people until today, only to realize that I'm never going to get ahold of anybody who works in the city office. Oops. My boss will be thrilled. I simply cannot file away holidays, since I really only get Christmas, New Year's, and Easter. Everything else, I blank out, since I'm working for it, guaranteed.

Checking in. My alarm didn't go off this morning, I rushed in for a 8:30am conference call which didn't happen and the weather is miserable outside. Happy Columbus Day!

I actually don't mind working today. I'm off Thursday and Friday so I need today to do all my work before then.
I love govt holidays because then my commute to work is almost cut in half.

This is the position I'm in, too. I'm wincing every time my boss comes through, I need to come up with a plan B really quickly, here. Fortunately, I tend to do my best thinking when in ass-covering mode. ((hugs)), I'm totally there.

Not only am I at work, but it is the first day of another lovely week of being on-call. Grrr!!!
Thankfully my next week in the rotation was taken by a guy who needs the money, so I won't be on-call again until the week before Christmas. If I can just make it to Sunday, I will have a nice, long break before engaging my ultimate stresser again.

My last job had that benefit too. My new one doesn't, but I don't mind. We have a four-day weekend over Christmas and a half day and one full day off before and after New Years. I don't mind not getting the time off, because then I can stay out here in Phoenix for New Years. I've spent every New Years at my parents' house since.

Yeah, we also get odd holidays off like the day after Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve.
Plus, I'm still trying to find out how many PTO days I have left. If I didn't take any floating holidays, I may have as many as 17 days left for this year.
So I'll make my own holidays!

But you don't have to write stories anymore!! That would personally make my stress levels go WAAAAY down.

I feel like I am falling asleep at my desk. It is so quiet being in an office alone all the time. Plus I did lots of tedious paperwork which adds to the sleepiness. I think I am just going to leave at 4PM to go home.

Yes but who knows what other stressors I'll be getting into? A much bigger more intimidating paper, news instead of sports, people with bigger egos, etc. I'll start finding out in about an hour and a half. I'm having major first-day jitters.

That's the good thing about working for a company that is located in a federal building. If the federal building is closed on that day, the people who work in that building get the day off !!! WOO HOO !!!

Even though I am tired, I really don't mind being here. I would just be sitting around if I was home anyways. Now if I was still working in psycho-land you better believe I would have been taking the day off for the holiday

Not only did I work but I ended up working late.
I was actually considering staying even later to do another experiment - then I remembered that my coworker got in at 8:30 and left at 4:10 as he does EVERY SINGLE DAY.
So I went home :)

I can't remember ever getting Columbus Day off from work...usually I just had the major holidays, but at least when I was in NY, we had the Jewish high holidays (Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur) off, so that was a help.

I didn't get my data until like 4 pm and then I had to analyze it to figure out what to do next and compare two different systems. And yeah, I almost put another experiment on tonight but seeing my coworker never even work a full shift (and he seriously didn't do a damn thing all day) I got annoyed and left. I'd love to know how coming in between 8:30 and 9 every day and leaving just after the bosses leave at four constitutes a full 40 hour workweek.

I just got home...at 945, that is. I had an author event to cover, so I had to schmooze and smile. But my coworker and I left work before the event, went out for a drink, then went back to work...hehehe...
