Ok, don't know how many of y'all follow clothing rules--ya know, like no white after labor day--and whatever, but for those of you who do....do you think those rules can ever be voided? We got on this topic here at work & were curious what others thought.

Ex: Today, I wanted to wear something casual, but not jeans, to work, so I put on a pair of corduroy pants with a top. Now, I seriously debated wearing these cords because cords are usually a cold weather/fall clothing item. Well, the high today is 91, so even though I'm technically in the fall season, it's no where near cold enough to wear cords.

I know, this is probably a really stupid, random question, but for the other clothing whores out there, what do you think? Am I a fashion faux pas today? :p Or is this fashion rule voided?

I wear whatever I want to. I never wore shorts once all summer and it was in the 90's then. Oh yeah and one time I wore a black belt and brown shoes cuz I only have one good belt but it was too cold for my black sandals and my brown boots are more comfy than my black ones.

THis is really wierd. I actually was thinking about starting a thread this AM while I was getting dressed bc I questioned whether or not to wear my white pants to work. I didn't, wear them anyway and my roomate was still asleep so I couldn't ask her. We had a convo at work today and they told me that it would have been fine. White shoes, maybe not so much, but pants would be fine.
As far as cords, i think they are acceptable whenever. The only thing I am wierd about is open toed shoes. I am iffy about wearing them right now and its not even cold yet. But thats just me!

I see nothing wrong with it, Paige!

Tell her to go for it! Guess you all know what I'll be wearing tomorrow :)

Don't ask me, I'm totally inappropriate. I wear sandals in the snow (not for long-term, obviously, but to dash if need be), a fleece in the summer (AC's frigid at work), and I highlight my hair more blonde in the winter, when you're supposed to let it be darker.

But, then, I don't really care if I'm a walking fashion faux pas...I look nice...I just don't always adhere to what you're supposed to wear and when.

Certain materials don't have to be restricted to certain seasons. It's all about what you pair it with and the individual item of clothing.

I see nothing wrong with wearing cords even if its not cold out. I do that.

Paige, I'm having to deal with this again now that I'm back in TX. In MA, it generally felt like the season it was supposed to be outside, so there were no conflicts (Except in frickin' April and May when it is CLEARLY supposed to be spring and it was freezing out, but I digress..)Now, I want to wear my fall stuff but it's hot outside. I wear it anyway if I'm gonna be inside. If it's the weekend and I will be out more, I change it up a little but generally, I try to dress as though it's fall even though it feels like summer.

And white after Labor Day is no longer faux pas - it's winter white, baby!

My charming supervisor has pointed out on occasion when i've worn say a corduroy skirt on a day that's been warmer than usual. yeah, because that's appropriate, commenting on my clothes. Her idea of a compliment was oh that's a nice fall skirt even though it'll be 80 today. Look b*tch, it's fall, so I wear the fall skirt, temp be damned!! And i was STILL cold.

whew, rant over. And wear what you want when you feel like it. :)

Couldn't have said it better myself, Words. I wear dark jeans in the summer AND winter, and the high was 80 something today. What was I wearing? Brown cords and a autumnal-looking blazer.

No shorts that end above the knees. No socks with sandals. Shorts always go with sandals. No tank tops or muscle shirts unless I'm actually exercising.

Shit, I'm actually posting in a thread for 'clothing whores'. Isn't that one of the signs of the impending apocalypse?

I don't wear white pants ever, 'cuz I'm far too reckless for that. I have trouble keeping khakis stain-free.

I usually won't wear cords if it's warmer than about 60 out, but that's just because I would get too hot.

I've actually been having issues that I now own a pair of black pants but my only belt is brown. But that's about as much as I worry about fashion sense.

There are, however things I will never wear:
- tapered pants or the kind with the pleats in the front
- black shoes with white socks, unless we're talking about Mary Janes
- a top and bottom that are two different shades of the same color
- white tennis shoes. I think they're dorky.
- tank tops that look like lingerie. Unless I'm at a late-night house party or it's NYE. or both. But during the day? Just not appropriate, IMO.
- Miniskirts. Too impractical.

But in general, I say wear whatever is comfortable.

i pretty much just avoid white shoes, period. unless, they are tennis shoes anyway.

White pants? questionable, just because it seems everytime I wear them I mess them up or I start....

I will wear open toed shoes until its cold, then I will wear boots and closed toed shoes until it warms up again.

I refuse to wear the whole black/brown combo simply because if my sister caught me, I'd be a dead duck!

I will wear sleevless shirts throughout the winter, because at the office they can't decide if they want to roast us or freeze us. I wear sleevless, or shells with a jacket.

Belt must always match shoes. Other than that, not really.

Yeah...I just generally don't ever wear white. I'm very pale, I have light hair and eyes...there's no contrast. It does nothing for my coloring.

I have no idea why..but a lot of people tell me I look nice in white. So random, because I feel the same way you do about it, Words.
