Do any of you attend conferences or anything for work where inspirational speakers are used? I saw an amazing guy today. I attended a conference on traumatic brain injury (which is the area I work in). Anyways, the speaker they used was Dr. Fred Epstein. He is a well-known, pioneering pediatric neurosurgeon. He actually sustained a brain injury himself a few years ago. He was one of the first surgeons to do delicate surgery of this type on children that really were thought to have no chance of living. We watched his documentary that showed several children, now teens and adults, who not only survived, but came back to provide him support after learning he has a brain injury. One of the former patients that was considered the "miracle boy" came and introduced him today at the conference. I swear, there wasn't a dry eye in the house. And there were almost a thousand people there, men and women. I bought his book which he autographed for me called "If I get to Five". Oh yeah, he was also the first surgeon to do spinal surgery on a dog. They showed it in his documentary, and it was a pug ;). The pug is now healthy today :D. Just wanted to share the highlite of my day. Who are some inspirational speakers y'all have seen?

I was going to post something like this the other day, but haven't had the time. Just on Sunday there was a guest speaker for the youth group I help out with. His name is Jason Everett. He was an awesome speaker. His talk was about chastity, (yeah, I thought I was going to be some lame talk) and after hearing him talk I have a much more different aspect of this. Anyway, I don't want get into any heated discussions, but he was a really great speaker for the teens, and even young adults. He spoke to us at a level we would understand, not like how parents would try and talk to their teens about it. I don't know how to explain, he was just a great speaker. He's written some books and has a web site or too, I just don't remember them right now. He's talked to many teens all over the US too.

winney - i remember seeing that doctor's story on 20/20 or a similar program a few years ago. i thought it was incredibly amazing to see his patients try to help him through those difficult times, as he had done for them. a very heartwarming story.
