At the risk of sounding stupid - what's yellow tail?

To make a long story longer....My grandmother (who's originally from Virginia) went down south to visit some family last summer. She loves those huge mega Walmarts. She calls it "Walmarts", she brought back all of this cheap wine she brought from there. She gave me a bottle of Yellow Tail (some cheap Australian wine) as a gift. I thought "I'll just use it for cooking in a pinch."
Fast forward a few months. I'm doing some steelhead trout and I realize I don't have any white wine. I look in my liquor cabinet and what do I see? Yellow Tail. I cook with it and see that I have about 7/8 of a bottle left. So I drink a little with my meal, it had a funny aftertaste. It's not your average chardonnay. Chardonnay is usually very dry, this was very fruity and chemically. My friend I had over drank a glass and she tipsy. I kind of laughed it off and finished the rest of the bottle by myself. Now I'm feeling kind of funky.
But for some reason....I'll be buying some more Yellow Tail.

Hold you horses! Yellow tail is top shelf in MY apartment. ;) But seriously, I love that brand...and it's price. You have to go for the Pinot Grigio. the Shiroz causes me to lose my bra.

I've had their shiraz & IMO it is one of the best! (even though being in Ontario I'm quite loyal to my VQAs!)

Yellow Tail is actually okay, as basic nonfancy wines go.

Your problem would be that you left it open for months. It went bad. Wine only is good opened for about a week. And since it's yellow, you need to keep it refridgerated after opening.

LOL! I opened it that night. It was pretty good, it was just really sweet. There was nothing wrong with it, I was just expecting something more dry. I also wasn't expecting it to give me a buzz.

I buy local wines. The wine industry in Texas is flourishing right now. There is a new winery just down the street from where my new house is... Yes, stumbling distance! I've been going there since they opened a couple months ago. I'm something of a regular.

Our local wines are more expensive than they need to be, because they're touristy.

Our wines are the same, IMHO, but I like buying them anyway. Oddly my favorite german reisling is $2.99 a bottle and my favorite red is an agentinian cab that goes for $3.99 a bottle ;)
I'm sorry. I don't need a $30 bottle of red to have a good time....by myself. :p

Most of what I've read about wines is that for most average consumers, i.e. not wine connoisseurs, a $12 bottle is going to be just as good as a pricey one.
