interesting article I came across in the process of hunting for another one:

Is there any way you can summarize the article in a few sentences? I'm too lazy to read the whole thing. Thanks. :)

nope, can't do it

basically there are a bunch of theories; from pari-bonding to anti pair-bonding, and even related to orgasm.

However none have scientific rigour and the fact still remains: it's kind of superflous.

I love that the "upsuck theory" is a scientific term.

I guess I would say that whether or not there's an evolutionary necessity for the incidence of the female orgasm, the ability to spur one directly relates to a guy's odds of getting repeatedly laid. :p

The reason is because with some women it's already hard enough to get them to do it. Without the female orgasm we wouldn't get it at all! :D

I agree whole heartedly with this statment!

exactly.

the point is, i would not have sex with you and your odd mushroom shaped pokey device if it were not for the orgasm. I'd be content with rocky road ice cream.

I was gonna say... if we didn't get to come, then why the hell would we have sex?

I love Jess's, meatwad's, Angyl's, and Cole's different ways of saying the same thing! LOL

Well, for that reason it's obvious that it makes evolutionary sense to have sex be pleasurable. But an actual orgasm?

To distill things purely to sex (which is a hypothetical, and not something I actually do)...if I can get myself off, and you can't get me off...why do I need you? Bottom line is, it would be lose-lose, so why bother?

Again, this is talking purely the sex act itself...not touching on desire to procreate. If all I wanted was a kid, it wouldn't much matter if I could get an orgasm out of the deal, too. But that's not what I'm talking about.

so something hard and warm can be replaced by it's polar opposite, something that is soft and cold.......

But people!

There are plenty of women that have sex for fun even not expecting to come.

Which is exactly the point: Sexual pleasure is granted, but an actual orgasm.... why?

yup. mmm rocky road sounds really good.

And deadend? God loves women and wanted us to be happy happy creatures. :D

Oh dear... don't say that.... you're tottaly baiting an "intelligent design" debate

Angyl

haha, i wasn't serious.

Although, I do believe in intelligent design. If you'd like to go down that road.

'cuz pleasure is good... but if the guy always came and it was just "nice" for us, that wouldn't work for long.

At least, not for me. I'd be like "dude, if you get to have an orgasm and I just get to feel some pleasure, how about I give you a hand job and you give me a backrub?"

In the grand scheme of things, the very basis of sex is procreation. For women, birth is by-and-large an extremely painful venture. Throw us a bone and let us enjoy conception before we have to squeeze a football out of a hole that's roughly the size of a golfball.

It has been said that women tend be voted most likely to concieve if hightened arousal occurs.

Besides that there's something to be said for a climatic event to announce a pleasurable release. Also if women didn't have orgasms then a) you wouldn't know when we were done (not including multi-orgamic nights) and b) we wouldn't be able to fake when we were done if/when necessary.

It's all good, but I like the way Angyl said it best.

There are plenty of women that have sex for fun even not expecting to come.

Yet, the guys get way more out of it than the women (at least this is what I believe). It is an inherently unequal proposition with women getting the short end of the stick.

You know, everyone here just keeps discussing fairness. But the article was biology, fairness has absolutlely nothing to do with that.
