Hi everyone!
A friend forwarded me this slide show presentation, and I found it very helpful.
http://www.stc.org/50thConf/Session_Materials/dataShow.asp?ID=111
One of the best quotes from this presentation, I think, is "a job pays in cash; work pays in joy."
Basically, the author is presenting the idea of your job and your work as being separate. Your job provides for your necessities; your work provides your joy and meaning. Sometimes, those two can be merged, but for most people, they are separate.
Have a look at it (hopefully I copied the url correctly!).
Let me know what you think!

Maybe substitute the phrase "work" with passion, interest, or whatever. I'm really meticulous with language.
There is ALWAYS work with a job, and to me work will always be a mental or physical task or duty required for pay, enjoyable or not. Of course the AMerican Heritage dictionary says that "work" is also a synonym for job or employment. There are actually 14 meanings for the word "work" in here.
I want the enjoyable, fullfilling, rewarding (including sufficient cash) kind of job.

It's funny how this thread was started now. I've been thinking about this a lot recently. Lately i've been thinking more and more about looking for a new job. I'm just not happy at my current one. When i started i was given the impression of getting promoted and more work, but so far (it's almost been 2 yrs), nothing. I'm one of the youngest managers here, but am not treated as such.
I definitely feel like it's just unenjoyable crap work and at the minimum a person should at least not HATE their job. :(
I've had less and less days of liking it...although am grateful to have one.:)

I live in Eagan and have been looking for permanent IT work in MN since November and STILL haven't found anything. All there are for jobs are administrative and customer service jobs, at least that is all I can see on Monster, HotJobs, and in the newspapers, and over half of those are temp jobs. There may be temp jobs here, but there is not much for permanent work.
