Hi. I just found this site in the last few weeks and have been reading a lot of the threads. I'm 22, male, and currently living with my parents in the same relatively small town that I grew up in. I am glad that I found this site, because it has really been difficult for me to get through this really insubstantial-feeling point in my life. I am probably much too hard on myself, but I feel like I've let a lot of opportunities pass me by already, and it has gotten me stuck in this rut.

I just graduated this past spring from a (very well known and respected) university, which also happens to be in my hometown. So, as you can see, I've never really left. When I got out of college, I went straight to a Masters program in Library and Information Science at another university in the state, which I thought would be a good fit for me. But I was pretty miserable there, and I ended up dropping out in the middle of the semester and moving back home. For now I've just been looking for a relatively short-term job here in the area while I figure things out. I'm somewhat optimistic about that, because there are actually two different colleges here, so there are a good number of jobs available, especially for this size of a community.

It's also been hard because my girlfriend of two years is in law school halfway across the country. While she is very supportive, it is kind of difficult to talk to her sometimes, because she is having a lot of great, exciting experiences at her new school, and I...am not.

Anyway, I look forward to meeting all of you here!

Hey, is your name a Fight Club reference?

It's good that you're staying optimistic. So much of how things turn out for you will be affected by your perspective on it and the vibe you project to other people. Don't think about the opportunities that have past, you've got to keep your eyes on the ones that are coming.

Yup. Good guess! I've use this SN for years on other places.

Welcome to the boards! As difficult as things are right now, I am sure they will fall into place for you. We have people on here I am sure who have done the long-distant relationship thing too who can give you "advice" in that area. Let us know how things work out with the job search.
