I have been sick all weekend and still feel miserable today. Stuffy head cold, chills, sore itchy eyes, headache, general BLAH!

How do you concentrate at work when you feel crummy? Do you just pretend to work all day? Head home early?

I don't have much choice but to just work through it, and pretending to work isn't an option, because at the end of the day, the paper still needs to come out. Theraflu, Dayquil, hot beverages, whatever OTC stuff it takes gets me through.

I've learned that if I'm sick, and I know I won't be able to function too well at work. I stay home (or go home early if I'm already at work). I have sick time and that's what it's used for. At my last job I went into work sick and I ended up getting two other people sick. I had bronchitis and didn't know it until a week or two later. The office manager told me that I should stay home and use up my sick time. So from now on, I'll stay home no matter what.

I stay home. First I could get other people sick, but if I'm coughing everywhere I could potentially contaminate my samples. And that would really suck.

I'm thinking I should switch to a job with less responsibility, so that it's not necessary for me to come to work sick, but it's hard to justify taking a step back.

Amazing how a good cup of soup can make you feel a little better. Any OTC drug recommendations though?

being that i'm a step above an intern, and my company doesnt pay me enough to be even more msierable when I'm here, I try to go home early.

That and you catch serioues grief if you get our whole bureau sick. SERIOUS. Since there's only 8 reporters, having more than 2 of us gone is bad news bears.

Last year I got really sick but i had like 5 billion things going on so I pretty much just had to work through it. It sucked.

Yeah, there are only three here, total (one is sports only, so really, two). Which is why I can't miss.

At my last company we only got 6 sick days. Motherfuckers. That had to cover doctors appointments and the dentist, too.

I get no sick days currently. Doing contract/consulting work so if I am not here I do not get paid. 2 days off for Thanksgiving...no pay. Office closed the whole week after Christmas...no pay. Sick and stay home...no pay.

I have been pounding the Vitamin C. I have some drink mix at home made from Acerola Cherries that I will probably make. Did you know that one acerola cherry has more vitamin C in it than 4 full size oranges? Good stuff. I think I am beyond the echinacea stage...I have heard it is only good at the very onset of a cold/sore throat. No sore throat and I am hoping that does not come. Just mostly a head/sinus cold. Hope I don't have a rudolph nose for my 10 year class reunion this weekend.

Here's a better question:

Not working while not sick?

What's a good excuse?

I have had to work while sick at various times because there was an event I had to be at or some important meeting, I just try to sneak out as early as possible. Last time it was an evening event so I napped in an empty office for like 3 hours beforehand.

One word: caffiene.
