I am a programmer, I got a degree in computer science, I have one year of experience programming. I've been out of work for 2 months, and I really desperate for work cause I see no oppurtunities anywhere in the near future. I can't find ANY job that require anything less than 3 years. I'm really begining to think it's hopeless.

anyone know what to do?

Logick,

I hate to be blunt, but this economy is sh*tty. I've read your other job-related posts, and it seems like you are unwilling to settle for any job right now. That's a bad attitude. You need money to survive, so you should just be looking for anything. If there aren't any jobs in your field open, there's nothing you can do about it. Find a job doing something else. I got my BA in American Studies and I am working in a university library and I hate it--although I just got a promotion! I'm staying there because the health benefits are excellent, even though the pay sucks. I want to go back to school for master's in public policy or public administration, but I have to wait until I have enough money. You need to open your job horizons, instead of being focused on ONE thing.

Your other post got me worried, but I'll respond to that one in a sec.

Take care...and we're all here for you.

I'd recommend temp work if you can get it, if you can't find a full time job. Even just a seasonal job will put some $$ in your pocket. I found as well that when I was temporarily employed, I got more job interviews than I had when I wasn't working. People I interviewed with for permanent positions found it admirable that I was working a job that I didn't have interest in career wise (doing data entry) but that I was working to gain skills/job experience (ANY job experience w/ 2 bachelor's degrees) and earn some $$ until I found a permanent position.

Keep the hope...it's a tough market. I was unemployed for 6 months myself until I even found temp work.

I'd have to agree with Phoenix, try to find a temp job somewhere so that at least you'll have some money coming in. Do you have a large university near you? A lot of times they will have temporary job listings for a set amount of time just to get a through a large project. If you're willing to do other things with your computer science degree, how about regular programming? You could always try that for awhile, get some experience and keep on trying to get into the gaming area...just a thought. Good luck!!

I have looked at regular programming, many times most of my interivews have been that but I always get the same reply, "We chose to hire someone with 5 years more experience than you who is willing to work for the bare minimum we are allowed to pay you.". So pretty much I'm competing with people way more experienced than me since they're all out of work.

As for temp job, I used to be a game tester as a popular company. I went to look for a programing job there got 3 interviews, each where cancelled. My friends at the place told me that somone high up seems to hate me and not want me to be interviewed even though the programmers all like me. My freidn in charge of the testers ogt me my old job back from when I was in high school as a tester. That's what I'm doing now, I hate it with every part of my being. being forced to work 14 hours a day, being blamed for all the mistakes made by the programmers. Being treated like dirt in general. I so want out so I can improve my coding skills. This is not work it's slave labor.

And I found out yesterday they hired new programmers, all less qualified than I am. Something is up.

What about other types of temp jobs??? You need to explore more options rather than focusing on one thing.

Wooohoo, I just got fired. I was accused by someone of surfing porn sites on someone elses machine while the head of the company was there. They didn't want to hear my side of the story, cause I have proof I didn't so the decided just to fire me. Oh well Phuck 'em.

Oh great and I fucked up my phone interview. Man whee's the vodka and sleeping pills when you need them most.

Logick- I'm so sorry to hear about your job! It sounds to me like someone there was out to get you- you're better off without them. Try to keep your spirits up :D !! I'm sure you'll find something...

Logick,

While I'm sorry to hear about your job, it really bothers me that you are posting such drastic messages. QLC is a very caring community and the fact that we don't know who or where you are is scary, because if you didn't come back to the boards ever again, we might think you had done something to yourself. We are a supportive place, and we'd all love to help you get your spirits back up, but I don't think your posts about sleeping pills and vodka are appropriate. Venting is good, but not in the way you're doing it.

Thanks but I can't do the lawyer thing. This industry is small an incestuous(sp?) if I sue the largest company in the industry, I'm gonna forever burn my bridges to this industry. Also I was never gonna put this job on my resume anyway. I'm glad now I have more time to make my own company. I am going to seek therapy, last night yesterday, if someone gave me the oppurtunity to die, I would have taken it. Sadly I got no job prospects in the near future and it looks like there's no job openings period in technology for new grads, so I'm thinking of getting my MBA while working on my own company.

On the 12th me and 2 other of my friends are gonna meet and figure it out.

Logick,

I'm glad you are going to seek therapy...and that you seem to have some ideas about your next step in life. Things are looking better for you already, you just have to see it that way yourself. Good luck to you and keep us posted!

Yes, but WB, isn't it harder to be at the bottom of your class than to be at the top? LOL:p

Logick-
Sounds like although you don't have any job prospects, you at least have a plan...that's half the battle in my opinion :D ! Good luck and keep us posted !!
