I need an opinion on something. I am currently working at a temp job doing data entry. What if another temping agency called me with a better offer with a little more pay, closer to home, could lead to a permanent position, etc? How can I go about jumping ship without burning some bridges? What I mean is how can I tell the place that I'm working at right now, thanks, but no thanks, maybe if I don't have anything in the future I'll call you guys back up or whatever? What exactly can or should I say that won't necessarily come out as, "hey f you guys, I don't need you, blah, blah, blah!" Any hints or suggestions?

I don't know how it is in the temping world...in the permanent job world, obviously you'd take a job that is more attractive...people do that all time. But I say that if another agency can offer you something better, then they're a better agency to focus on, and switch with them...especially if you want a permanent position soon.

It's a temp job. Just remember that temp agencies and their clients understand that temps are usually there while they're looking for something better. So if something better comes along, take it! Best if you can give them some notice, of course, but I wouldn't worry too much about it.

2 weeks notice, unless you hate the agency and would never work for them again. That's all there is to it - temps leave all the time they're probably not going to bat an eye.

I'm looking at this from a contractor by project angle. What I mean is the last time I was temping, my client needed me to do a project, we had an understanding (no written contract) that I would finish the project before taking on permanent employment.

Just today I joined another project. I intend to stay until at least that project is finished. If I like the environment, I will try to get more work, if not, I'll look for another project elsewhere.

I don't know what proper ettiquette is with these agencies, but I give the one I'm currently working with a higher priority than the others because I want more work, if they have more to offer good, if somoene else is offering to place me somewhere and my current agency has nothing on the table, I'll go with them. I hope they understand that I have bills and such to pay so I need to keep working.

Ultimately I'd like to be working in a permanent position, but this contract work seems ok for now.
