Does anyone have links to a good unit for this book? All the links I've found kind of...STINK! I'm teaching it to 9th graders (I found a longterm sub job!).
I may have to teach Beowolf to the seniors, but I'm still trying to convince the principal that the kids could use a break. They just finished MacBeth. Who makes kids read TWO old dead white men in a ROW??? Yikes!

Not working as an English teacher, I have access to no units except for the ones I designed on The Great Gatsby, Huck Finn, and O, Pioneers!
But I just wanted to say that I LOOOOVED The Pigman.

GOOD! I hope it'll be fun to teach. I haven't even started the book yet! ;)
On a side-note for the other English teachers...I have resources out the wazooo for To Kill a Mockingbird, The Outsiders, and an Intro to contemporary poetry (which I REALLY wanted to do with the seniors! :( )

Steamroller - what's your email? I can send you my unit plan for the Pigman, which I just did a few months ago with my ninth graders. One of my colleagues taught Beowulf to her juniors a few months ago as well. I'd be happy to send you my Pigman unit plan, study guide, etc. I can ask my colleague if she'd be willing to share her Beowulf unit. PM me your email address, and I'd be happy to send you what I have.

Lol...that would be...me :D I made my students read Romeo and Juliet, and then they had to read Orwell's "Animal Farm." Right now, though, we're reading Sandoz's "Winter Thunder" and tying it in with the creative writing unit I've planned.

Yeah, but Orwell isn't a REALLY old dead white man.
