There has been a lot of talk recently about how much revenue Craigslist could generate in the wake of an article in Fortune magazine ($500 million vs. actual sales of $20 million) and how much Craigslist could be worth ($330 million using Om Malik’s $38/eyeball formula). Another question is whether it’s time for Craigslist to do an IPO or sell out. With competition increasing (Google, MySpace, etc.), it may be time for founder Craig Newmark to finally strike when the iron is hot.
We Say: Go for it, Craig. You’ve had an amazing run but do yourself a favor and start thinking about the money so you can easily finance whatever you want to do next.
