Okay, I accidentally remarked to my supervisor that I intensely *disliked* a certain portion of my job, and she kind of blinked and said "Well we'll be doing that for the next few weeks on [this project.]" and then changed the subject.

Was that a burn??? I mean it's not like she'll fire me, and I'll totally *think* before I say anything again, but I feel like I need to patch it up by saying something extra tomorrow...

Just wondering if anyone else had done something similar and had any suggestions.

Bad luck, Rainster! That was just really unfortunate timing for you.

It does sound as though you miffed your supervisor a bit, but you're entitled to feel negative about certain parts of your job and it *isn't* unreasonable to mention that to your boss. Were some of your co-workers around when you made the comment, or was it just you and your supervisor?

Either way, I don't see that your supervisor should hold your remark against you, as long as it's clear that you're still making the effort to perform well - and at something you don't like doing, too!

Everyone dislikes parts of their job, even the supervisors. Maybe she was just giving you the heads up by saying that to you, as a way to brace yourself. Also, if this is the first time you've ever complained, don't worry about it. You can't like everything, and no boss should expect you to. You may not like something, but you should still do it in the same manner which you carry out all your other duties. Good luck!

I've done that before- remarked to my supervisor how much i hated doing something; i still do the work of course...I just turned it into a joke. Oh look now i'm doing my favorite part of my job :)...now everyone just laughs when i say it.

I think that as long as you're not whining about it, they should respect your honesty. Maybe your supervisor enjoys that' part of work and that's why she was a little miffed. Good luck!!

Thanks everyone! Your comments helped me calm down a bit... Just talked to her this morning, and I think it was more that she was tired after hours when I made the remark... and I got to go home while she had to stay (the task in particular was phonebanking for a campaign --the state primary's coming up in a few weeks. Nobody likes phonebanking!!!) ;)
