I am 24/M and living alone in Columbus. Did the whole college thing and had a "long term" relationship (2.5 years). But, then got dumped for no reason other than she said she was confused, etc.

Anyway, life other than the dating scene is going great. Have a good job and some good friends here. I am just looking to "break the mold" a little and meet some new people. Where do the nice, single girls hang out in this town? Any suggestions on where to meet people? Thanks!!

OSU is my alma matter.
I'm not sure what you mean by "nice girls, but it always seemed like there were always nice people in the mix of things. I left right after graduation so I'm a little forgetful. But there were some bars, ie. B Hamptons,
definately some clubs downtown, Jillians was a fun place- Dave N Buster, Other places- go out to eat, watch soccer or go to any sport that you're into. Go see a concert. But
I think the best way to meet people was through or with friends and aquaintances.

I am still trying to find where the nice boys are, and I am sooo tired of the bar scene. At 23 I feel like I've outgrown it.. :-) Maybe it's because it seems like everytime I go out most of the folks are underage and the rest are in their 40's.....

I guess "nice" may not have been very descriptive of what I am looking for. Of course, I want to meet women that are nice as in kind. But, I am also looking for someone that is mature and has some idea of what they want in life. My "ex" may never grow up and has no idea what she wants to do, besides party and live for the moment.

I have done the bar scene....it's not really a scene where I like to meet women. I usually meet no one or the wrong ones. I do go to the bars with friends to relax and hang out sometimes, but don't really go there to try to find someone.

I am trying to get more involved in things. I am trying to get signed up in a co-ed flag football league. And, I am working on getting into kickboxing classes to meet some new people. If anyone has any other ideas of where to meet young single people in the area, throw them out. Thanks!

Try joining the Young Buckeyes organization. Basically, any Buckeye alum can join and everyone is under 30. Kind of a nice way to network and make friends.

Sunbear,

Gillians is no longer, it closed down about a month ago. It was a great place to watch football on Saturdays/Sundays for sure. Hamptons is pretty cool for happy hour, but it is such a sausage factory. Too many "meatheads" for me. BTW, where do you live now? Are you getting excited about Buckeye football?

Hi Brad-
too bad about Gillians. Too bad about all of the bars, High St. used to be so much fun! I partied there in 94 before I started in 95. I used to party at BHamptons really late on the weeknights, most of the bars are cramped at any other time.
Even downtown was pretty much a meat factory-it wasn't as bad as campus though.
I'm currently in San Diego and YES I am excited about Buckeye football!- of course.
What did you think about the San Diego State vs OSU game last fall? To be honest with you- I was laughing my @#! off- I love my alma matter. I'm going to check out your site. Thank you. :0)

Sunbear,

Hah, yeah the first half of the SDSU game was a bit suspect. But all was well in the second half; their five turnovers had me laughing my a** off.

With regards to High Street, you would be amazed. The campus partners have started their renovation by demolishing a handful of the "oldschool" bars/shops. The finished product should be pretty sweet.

Out of curiousity, why did you move out to CA?

Brad
I moved out with my family after graduation- have roots here and just wanted to try something new. Cali is pretty different...
there are a lot of fun things to do, the weather is nice, beaches even nicer. So many people out here are from somewhere else.
What I thought about that game is a bunch of guys with gel and bleach in their hair who's only idea of a strategy is to go after Steve Bellasari.
That "personality" is typical out here-
So, are you still in school? Graduated- what are you up to?

Sunbear,

I graduated in March with a BA in Comm/Spanish and still live in Columbus. I have never really been sure what I wanted to do with myself, so looking for a career is that much more difficult. Unfortunately, or I guess fotunately, I am a lonely, disgruntled, easily annoyed, Fish Market server. I should be grateful that I even have a job, it's just that I am so eager to become a professional and earn a decent wage.

What did you study at OSU? Are you happy with your career/job?

oooooh.. The Fish Market- isn't that a Cameron Mitchell resturant? You're probably making more $$ than I-
with a flexible schedule.
Out here- people pay you more for knowing Spanish, and it's actually a lot easier to be hired in some places if you're bilingual.
I currently work as a stock broker, the discount kind- not the rich kind. I only work 40 hours a week and I'd much rather be waiting tables. We have to keep up with East Coast market hours so we're at work at 5:30 am...sit chained to the phones(almost literally) and get yelled at all day for such little $. I have a degree in Family Resource Management- Human Ecology. No, I didn't make it into the Fischer college of business. I've been employed here for a year and a half- I don't think I'll be staying in the industry. I'm picking my next career blindfolded out of a grab bag.

Also I have been to the new Brazenhead on 5th and it has been a lot of fun.

I am just trying to meet some new people. Anyone else have any ideas?

I don't know if you've ever been, but Margarita Mama's ladies night happy hour on Thursdays has $1 margarita's. Its a nice place and the patio is great. We have happy hours after work there all of the time.

It looks like it's been a while since anyone has posted anything here, but I'll drop my 2 cents in regardless....

I'm a recent college grad (okay, almost two years now), and have been living in Columbus for almost a year now. However, aside from the middle-aged people I work with (whom I love, don't get me wrong), my roommate, and some random acquaintances, I really have no friends here. All my old friends live at least an hour away, some of them an ocean away. It's been exceptionally hard to deal with lately for some reason, so I bought the QLC book upon the recommendation of a friend. I found this website on the last page of the book, and here I am.

My experiences in the Columbus social scene have not been entirely terrible, though I do have a horror story or two to tell. However, I have no idea where to go to meet those elusive "like-minded companions." I'm not neccessarily looking fo' love- just friends. Those people that were so abundant and readily available two years ago.

I'm just curious, as I've always known there are a ton of us out there going through this same thing. I'd love to hear how others are dealing with this so-called crisis. Now....somebody reply to this....quick....before I take out a Yahoo personal ad...

Hi Mstoast.
I moved away from Columbus over two years ago so I'm not sure if I have too many helpful hints. Where did you move from?
I remember a lot of country folks, per say- I'm not sure what it is like nowadays. Anyways, I know that there are so many places to eat and hang out downtown. I went there for school- I know there are twentysomethings floating around there somewhere.
by the way
GO KRETZEL #12!

:D

I seem to spend most of my time at work, and when I do go out the crowd isn't exactly my scene.

Don't lose hope though!!!!

Thanks for replying...

I'm thinking about taking a class or two this winter. That should be a good way to meet people with common interests. I'm just a bit frustrated right now. Tired of the meat markets, but what else to do? Yes, there are quite a few of those "country folk" but where I am originally from is much worse.
