I'm not counting or nything, but it was on the news today. So, out of the people the media thinks will run, who would you pick.

Giuliani '08!

I've voted for McCain the past two elections, so it would be nice if he were actually on the ballot. If not then Giuliani.

I could see myself voting for almost any democrat but my preference would be Biden although I'd be fine with voting for McCain. He is an honorable and able politician who speaks his mind well. It's just a shame he will need a miracle to get the republican nod with all the right-wing religious folks in the party who want a biblethumper for president

Giuliani, because he's the closest candidate to a conservative as the list presents. Its not that Republicans want a bible-thumper up there, we want a conservative. Of course the Democrats want McCain to be the Republican nominee...he's a RINO...a jackass in elephant's clothing. You should add Zell Miller as a Democrat to the list, or Joe Lieberman, if you are going to put McLame up there.

I put that I'll wait but it'll probably take an "act of God" for me to vote conservative considering some of the utter bullshit they seem to enjoy standing behind.

Well, he's not really a conservative (actually, when he ran for mayor, he was on the Liberal as well as the Republican ticket). He's a social liberal but with a real sense of toughness and law and order that this country needs.

5 Dems. 1 Rino. 1 Blue-State Republican. 1 unnamed Libertarian candidate. Not the fairest poll in the land.

Well I'm not even sure who the republicans would run in 2008? Frist? Cheney?

Isn't John Warner a republican?

I would not vote for anyone on that list. I especially wouldn't vote for several on the list. I would likely vote for McCain over Rudy if it came to having to choose but really I would pick neither. Both are RINOs and I don't agree with a majority of what their platforms and stances would likely be.

I wish I could remember his name....but there is a republican senator that I heard on the radio a few months back that I REALLY liked and thought he was right in line with where I think a conservative candidate should be...I think he was from Virginia or somewhere like that...but he eluded to potentially running for Prez in 2008.

I also don't see Condi Rice in that list...and I think there is a good chance of it too especially if Hilary runs....what am I talking about...of course Hilary will run. Condi is ridiculously smart...and would be the first female and first minority president. But I doubt that Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton and women's right groups would line up to support her even though she is a minority female.

I voted for Hilary in the poll, but I would be thrilled to see a Guiliani/Clinton election. I have a lot of respect for Giuliani and the way he cleaned up NYC. I think he could do a lot for the country if given the opportunity on a national level. I also like Hilary a lot, but what's funny about her is that most people assume she's a lot more liberal than she is.

I don't think there is any way that Cheney will run... he really doesn't seem the least bit interested.

But I think that she is as liberal as some think she is but she tries hard to position herself to appear to be in the middle. Her true self comes out though on rare occasions in front of large democrat crowds where she goes off the deep end. She is also known to have a the mouth of a drunken sailor and quite the temper as well....at least from those that have worked closely with her and were on security detail when she was in the White House have indicated.

HereComes30, I believe you are referring to George Allen. I don't know much about him, except that he is a staunch Conservative, and all the conservative pundits are lauding his credentials. Rick Santorum and Tom Tancredo have also been mentioned, but Tancredo doesn't stand a chance unless immigration reform becomes The Big Issue.

For clarification, I mentioned Zell Miller and Joe Lieberman because they are the castaways of the Democratic party. They are more conservative than McCain or Giuliani. Much the same way Dems want a weak conservative like McCain to run on the Repub ticket, I want Zell Miller to run on the Dem ticket.

Regarding Barack Obama, he is the Dems superstar, and it will be interesting to see if he teams up with Shrillary, or if they go head-to-head and rip each other to shreds.

Obama is a superstar in general, party notwithstanding, and has ten thousand times the charisma of Hillary.

I met him in Nov. at the Illinois Press Association annual conference, and he wouldn't commit to anything involving running for higher office, although everybody was cheering him on.

* As an aside, did anybody else see that he won a GRAMMY last night (for spoken word recording, from his book)? I wonder how many politicians have won Grammys.

I wouldn't vote for anyone on the list quite frankly. Even though I like Barack's charisma I'm not sure in a dogfight I'd feel all that comfortable with him especially after his recent backdown too McCain.

I'm not impressed with any of the politicians right now.

Republicans swear they are conservative but that apparently only means with social issues b/c they are more liberal with spending and screwing up the environment than anyon eelse.

Democrats seem to be like a middle child seeking a identity and are so all over the map I'm not sure what it is they even stand for most of the time. They won't stand up to the republicans which makes me question how you will stand up to anyone else.

I'd like to see someone come out with a progressive approach to be more inclusive with our foreign policy instead of alienating the rest of the world as we've seemingly done the past umpteen years.

There's a push here in VA by repubs to get George Allen on the ballot. :googly:

I'm not sure I'd have anyone to vote for given the current state of politics.

It was on the WB's morning show today. The last two choices I added. And you only get 10 spots, and nobody has said they plan on running yet.

They had Warner's picture on the Democrat side. I have never heard of him.

I feel strange saying this but I'd vote for Ghouliani, even though I'm a borderline socialist. He really turned NYC around for the better after years of decay.

If anybody can do it Rudy can!

Not to be dour but....

Americans tend not to elect congressmen because they're too close to the action and are not executives and forget how to be executives. They tend to play both sides of issues.

Even the great liberal Hillary has covered her butt. Every interview she gives she almost manages to never have an opinion on anything. This is what helped kill Kerry as well and even after 2 years of campaigning, he couldn't break out of it.

The last congressman to win the presidency directly was Kennedy... and that was... before the Vietnam war.

Based on that observation, only Rudy has a shot and I don't think he can make it through the Republican primary.

We need a list of governors; there'll you'll find your president.

very interesting insight MrAnon. I think that is what makes it tough to predict who will win in 2008 at this point because we know so little about the various governors that could likely be the key players.

Yeah I don't know how that happened either! But we do have a republican govenor Mitt Romney is his name and he ALSO happens to be a mormon so he is quite conservative...I believe this is his second term as govenor as well...still have no clue how that happened. Potential rival candidates had lots of skeletons in their closets...

But Obama just won a second one for Audacity of Hope, this weekend (first one, the one alluded to when this thread was first active, was for Dreams from my Father), so he's still one up on her. ;)

If I wrote a best-selling book, I'd definitely wanna read it myself for the audio. Especially if I were also renowned as a speaker.
