I am just curious how many of us are working (or even temping) in technical fields such as Help Desk, Systems Administration or Network Administration.

Has there been much of an uptick in these positions or has been it more of a downtick, since I have resumed my studies into getting a CCNA and now have just one exam to go for the (ICND part) CCNA.

I have already determined to go into the internship route through my program, but I am curious if you went through such.

My fiance is a systems administrator for a department at Carnegie Mellon University. He says that the CCNA is good, but it's not going to make up for experience in a tougher job market. At least in Pittsburgh, he thinks he's seen an increase in those sorts of positions, but mostly in the vein of people looking for systems admins with experience. He hasn't seen much change lately for people without experience. He advertised a position last year for his assistant, and he received 100 resumes, but few of them included the experience for which he was looking.
