Anybody baseball fans on board? If so, what's your team, and what do you think of the new World Baseball Classic?
I like the Houston Astros.

I'm currently swamped with work right now because my boss is kicking it in Arizona at the Cubs' training. So, no, I'm not a fan at the moment. :p
But ordinarily, I like baseball okay, more than any other sport, really.

I went to a Red Sox spring training game on Saturday. I haven't always been a baseball fan (usually more into football/basketball), but it's a lot more fun to watch live than on tv.

NOTHING is fun to watch on TV, IMO.

Spring training is happening right now in my town. I haven't seen any of the games because most of them are during the middle of the week during the middle of the day. I like watching sports live at a stadium/arena, etc. The Angels train out here, so I'd like to watch a game. I just have to see if I can go to one that works with my work schedule. The Dodgers train in Florida, so I won't be able to watch them practice. As much as I now live in Phoenix and I'll probably be here for awhile, my teams are still in Los Angeles. :)

Football is better on TV. The atmosphere is obviously better live, but for just watching and following the game, TV has it down cold.

But, see, lucky me, football's the one sport I categorically detest live, on a screen, whatever.

I disagree...baseball has an excellent live atmosphere, and the NFL is so boring on TV (every three minutes it seems like another advertisement)...plus the game of baseball just seems so much more engaging...football seems to me like a bucn hof huge guys running into each other.

LOVE LOVE LOVE baseball!! I had the glove out the other day just smelling the leather....nothing like it!
I think it will be interesting to see how the WBC goes this year. I like the idea because there is baseball talent all over the world. But if we do not win the whole thing I will be highly disappointed since it is OUR sport! Who will be broadcasting the games? I think if it is marketed right, it can be something that could take off. Are they looking at doing it every year or every 4 years like the Olympics? I am in favor of every 4 personally.
Things are looking up for the Pirates this year so that is exciting to see. We had the NL rookie of the year last year afterall. And the All-Star game will be here this summer!! I hope to get some tickets or at least spend a lot of time down at the stadium watching all the madness around the stadium. We are known to have a lot of rain around here though so hopefully that stays away.
Yankees have been my favorite since the mid-80's when they stunk so there is some rooting going on there...although the huge egos there over the years have taken away from some of my thrill for the team. Mattingly was my man.
Being originally from eastern PA, I try to follow the Phillies a bit and was excited about the return of the Nationals last year.
Just curious...anyone interested in a QLC fantasy baseball league? I have slots still in a yahoo league that I am currently in, but just thought a totally seperate league just for those on QLC might be fun. I have found yahoo to do a good job with it. Anyone interested? If so, I would be happy to set it up.

I 100% agree. The sports are so different, though, so it's tough to compare them. The pace and strategy styles are so different.
As for the WBC, I think it's a bad idea. This is NOT the time for pitchers to be pitching games to win... Spring Training pretty much exists (and is 6 weeks long) for those guys and asking them to pitch in games right now is a bad idea. This September/October should be interesting as a result of it. I do thing it'll be a good venue for journeyman players to be seen.
And, I think it's pretty obvious what team I root for in the MLB. :)

Actually, the Yanks were pretty good in the mid 80s. It was just unfortunate that the Red Sox, Blue Jays and Tigers were a little bit better...there could have seriously been two or three subway series then if things fell into place (not that I would have cared at the time since I lived in Florida and wasn't into baseball then). Yanks didn't stink until the Stump Merrill days of circa 1990. That was bad.

I have started a Yahoo fantasy baseball league for those here in QLC. I will be posting a new thread in the Just for Fun area to announce this as well.
There is a 12 team max so it is on a first come first serve basis. Please though...if you join the league then be an active participant. There is nothing worse than someone that never sets a lineup, makes trade offers, picks up players off the wire, etc.
Here is the link to the baseball fantasy page on Yahoo.
http://baseball.fantasysports.yahoo.com/b1/register/joinprivateleague;_ylt=AjI517020vIIBmEfm5azoXGVm8A F
This should take you directly to the login screen. The league information needed is as follows:
League ID #: 210014
Password: baseball06
I will announce the draft once enough teams have joined. I would like to have at least 5 teams. The draft will be automatically done, so you might want to consider pre-ranking your preferred draft list. Official scoring will begin on April 2.
Hope you can join in the fun! Let me know if you have any questions.

I like to be at a baseball game, watching it on TV is tough unless the team is doing good, and well I'm at a bar with beer specials :)
Trying to do opening day again this year. Local bar gets a bus, drives us downtown to drink / pre-game, then takes us home. Tickets come w/ the deal.
Good stuff.
Go O's - Lets start off great again and then tank! wooo hooo

Yankees, I mean Team USA, eliminated from the WBC yesterday. I wasn't even rooting for them.

Ummm...there are only three Yankees on the team. Not enough to fill even the infield.

I don't think the Rocket is coming back. I was hoping he'd be wearing an Astros uni again this year. BTW how many folks think that the Astros should go back to the Rainbow Orange stripes...those uniforms had moxie.

Absolutely not! Leave the 70's in the 70's!
And also BTW.... Still need people for the QLC Yahoo fantasy baseball league. So if you are interested....or have any friends, relatives, or coworkers interested....

hey, they wore them through the 80s (they dispensed with the rainbows in the mid/late 80s)...those were such a classic look. Just like the old Pirates unis.

I have been a RS fan since like, '89. I have a vintage coat. There were 2 *distinct* groups of ppl when they won the 'Series; a) those who know about the team, came up to me, & said "Awesome vintage coat!", & b) the a-holes who approached me, "Nice coat, way to jump on the bandwagon!"
Guess which got the f-u? :p

Probably somewhere around there. I would like to draft sooner though. So if interested...sign up now...information is above. And feel free to invite others.
