View Full Version : Feeling discouraged

So, my Mom and I met with a family friend last night to discuss mortgages (he's a mortgage broker.) We wanted this to be our first step into looking at condos, and mortgages, because we're both uneducated about how to go about looking. God, do I feel discouraged. I make next to nothing to begin with, so if I do buy something, which is doable, I will be a friggin hermit, and not be able to afford to do much after all is said and done. How do people our age afford to live on their own? How do they have a life, and afford to travel and go out with friends? Then I start thinking of the bigger picture down the road, how the HELL am I going to be able to have a family (hopefully I will find myself a good husband, but that's not on the radar screen right now), but I am thinking children, college educations, family vacations, and whatever else life throws at me. I am just feeling like moving out of my house is unattainable, and this makes me sad. Anyone else feeling discouraged?

There were two threads on this same subject written at length yesterday. My feelings is that just because we may want to buy a home doesn't mean that it is the right time or we are financially able to.

Sorry, guess I should have checked first.

No problem. Actually, I think there may have even been THREE threads because I think someone started one on how do you know if you are actually ready to buy...........

Yup...this has been discussed quite a bit the last day or so :) (and I'm guilty of half the posts...)

Ya, this seems like a good place to vent your frustrations, and to get some good advice. I think people like starting their own threads though, because it makes their situation more personal. Like whatever advice people can offer me, is molded to fit my current dilema and it means that much more. Just a thought.

Again, I apologize for the redundancy.

Why do you have to buy a house in order to move out of your mom's house? Why not just rent for a bit and see if you can make it on your own with an apartment first, before buying a house. A house is a big commitment, whereas an apartment is just being rented for a certain amount of time.

I should clarify that I live with my Mom and Dad, but my Mom is the one who is helping me out the most in regards to learning and looking. It's not imperative for me to move out, it's not even bothering me or them that I live at home. They see buying a condo as an investment, and renting as putting my money into someone elses pocket. What I am saying is, that I don't need to move out right now. I would just rather buy something, instead of rent.
