Just wondering why Cartoon Network never plays any old Nickelodeon cartoons/shows, or why Nickelodeon doesn't play them either. Did you guys watch Today's Special, Pinwheel, Hey Dude, or any of those other shows? They were great - especially Today's Special, with the mannequin that would come to life when his hat fell off. Pinwheel was pretty cool, too, although I don't remember much of it except for the two bee looking things that would count, one would count correctly and the other just shouted "one! one!" over and over again.

Just feeling nostalgic...

I remember on pinwheel when they would have blocks that would move make designs and do things.....I dont recall the bee.

Lets see Nick stuff I remember.

the soap Fifteen
Danger Mouse
You cant do that on Television
Count Duckula (no one remembers that one)
They used to have re runs of muppet babies and the muppet show
Ren & Stimpy
Guts
Double Dare
Salute your Shorts
Clarissa Explains it all
Welcome Freshman (I was so scared to go to hs because of it!)

Most of these are on Nick 2. If you have digital cable it usually has it in a package.

Stuff I like now:
Spongebob Sq. Pants
As told by Ginger (its about middle school and dead on)

I remember Count Duckula! There was one on early in the morning called Spartacus, and Menudo sang the theme song I think. I remember playing You Can't Do That On Television in the pool with my friends with a big bucket, saying "water" or "I don't know" and pouring it over each other's heads.

Thanks for the info! I'll keep a lookout for those shows.

I would love it if there was a retro 80s TV station. All the cartoons and sitcoms... I'd love it!!!!

Does anyone remember Belle and Sebastian? that was my favorite show EVER when I was a little kid, i would love to see it again.

I was also addicted to Today's Special (I begged my Mom for months to take tap dance lessons because of that show), Spinwheel (I wanted a large flying bee as a pet), and this one thing with Bill Cosby... I can't remember what it was called but you could order the little worksheets to do along with him at home and he had this pen named Mortermer Icabod Marker or something like that.... and the pen came to life sometimes.

After re-reading this before I post it, I'm hoping that someone else remembers what I'm talking about, or else I'm just going so sound really crazy.... :)

The bill cosby show was called Picture Pages. I think the pen was called Mortimer the Magic Marker. I think there was a cartoon version of him in the opening of the show. Mortimer also made noise whenever he was being drawn with. I think bill did the noises, but I'm not sure. The sheets were like puzzles, connect the dots and match objects (hat goes to head, shoe goes to foot)

I never liked bell and sebastian, that was always a signal to turn the TV off and go play. I like pinwheel and especially You can't do that on Television (Alanis morissete was on that show) How about Mr. Wizard, that show was kick ass. There was a short lived show called Danger Mouse and another called Banana Man. It seems in the early years Nickelodeon had a bunch of shows produced in england or canada. But the ultimate Canadian show has to be DeGrassi High. I believe it was the first teen soap. I don't think that was a Nick show.

I always like Slim Goodbody (the guy with the body suit of organs on it), which by the way I saw yesterday. It was a new one and boy he's looking old (still slim though). If you look closely on his suit you'll see a plastic hip and pacemaker. just kidding. He was teaching kids how advertisers lie to them to sell them crap. God I still love that guy.

According to my mom, I did Picture Pages (she sent away for the stuff) but I have NO recollection of this. LOL

Slim goodbody was good too....a little weird though

redhead, I loved Belle & Sebastian - I remember Belle had a tiny keg of hot chocolate on her collar, I remember wanting a dog just so I could try that. Also I just thought of The Little Prince, which I loved too. He had that whole little planet to himself but he had to share it with that testy rose girl. She was always in a bad mood. I still look at mannequins in the store and think of Today's Special. Mr. Wizard was cool too, especially when he had the kids on doing the experiments with him.

Also there was a show called "Are You Afraid of the Dark?" which was a little after my time but I used to watch it with my younger brother. The early ones were really pretty good, but my mom was always bothered by the fact they used a Dixie cup's worth of water to put out the campfire.

Nickelodeon is never past your time, at least for me. I love Spongebob Square Pants. I don't even have a kid, I just watch it for me. I don't think theres been an episode that I haven't liked.

SBSP is more popular with the 18-25 crowd than with the kids!!
Its mroe adult humor anyway....much like animaniacs when I was like oh 14?

I loved the animaniacs!!! I always used to 'remind' the kids i was babysitting when it was on...definitely adult humor in there. I was deprived of Nickelodeon :( ...but have seen SOMe of the shows; like double dare and you can'd do that on television! The Nickelodeon channels on digital cable may show some of the older shows now like Tank mentioned...

I used to love the Animaniacs too!

We didn't have cable at my house when I was a kid... but both sets of grandparents did! ;) So my sisters and I would veg out on cable instead of engaging in a healthy intergenerational dialogue. :p

You have all made my day!! I live for the days of racing home for Danger Mouse and You Can't Do That on Televison. Count Duckula was awsome, and I was the official Ren and Stimpy Historian in High School (I knew I make my momma proud somehow).

Don't get me started about De Grassi Jr. High. I was about to give up on finding someone else who watched De Grassi.

If you want a good De Grassi movie reference watch Chasing Amy
(I just have a thing for girls who say "aboot")

Oh, and long live the Animaniacs!!

I was more of a Nick at Nite girl. What was the name of Patty Duke's show, where she played an American and a French girl who were cousins? I was explaining to someone yesterday that Sam in Lord of the Rings is her son, but they had never heard of her.

Actually, I think it was called 'The Patty Duke Show'.

Gilrinterrupted and redhead: I thought I'd never find anyone that recalled the cartoon belle and sebastian. This weas the best cartoon in Nickelodeon. I can't believe its not played for kids today. I every so often go on ebay thinking I could get some sort of memorbilia on belle and sebastian but no luck. I wish I could find a place that I could purchase the cartoon series. I also recall Today's Special with the manequin and the Rat Moffy jajajaja.. that was awesome. I had a friend Id always jokke with at work in a good way though and tell her ohh my muffy.. she reminded me so much of expressions that muffy made. I also watched pinwheel and I believe Picture perfect? I dont recall the exact name. Another cartoon I enjoyed much was The adventures of Tom Sawyer... That was aired usually right after Belle and Sebastian. I live in South fla... I am assuming both of you should be close to my age. It was really nice to find this forum as I sometimes would get nostalgic and this very peculiar feeling that almost undescribeable when I hear the name Bellse and Sebastian.. How weird. :p :p :p

Eeeeeeeeeee! Yes, I WATCHED all of those. I loved Today's Special too! I spent way too much of my childhood in front of the tv.

And there's a channel called Nick GAS, but I think it's mostly old Nick gameshows.

OMG! I used to love Today's Special. Except I watched it on PBS when I was like 6. I had such a crush on the mannequin, Jeff, I named all my Ken dolls after him! I can't believe anyone remembers that show!

I also used to watch You Can't Do that on TV and Don't Just Sit There. And does anybody remember Roundhouse? I used to be so jealous of those kids cause they were so talented. Also Ren & Stimpy rocked.

Nick GAS is SOOO lame. Who wants to watch old episodes of Double Dare, even with Mark Summers' '80s mullet? I guess Legends of the Hidden Temple is sort of amusing because that talking rock is just so bizarre, but come on. Give me "Salute Your Shorts," "Rocko's Modern Life," "Hey Dude" and other shows that were actually funny and entertaining. Or "Pete and Pete"...that show was great. I think it's out on DVD now.

My sisters and I LOVED this show! We also liked Guts. When Guts came to Pittsburgh, our parents took us to see the live performance. We were really close to Mike O'Malley. LOL. This was around '94 or so, maybe late '93.

I was all about Hey, Dude and Salute Your Shorts. An old boyfriend of mine actually looks like the grown-up version of Sponge.

Growing up my parents only had basic, so no Nickelodeon for me. I was a deprived child...

This is why I watch Nickelodeon now. Gotta make up for lost time. ;)

I LOVED NICKELODEON. (I don't love it anymore because it's lame now.) But when I was growing up, I LOVED NICKELODEON. I can't even list my favorite Nickelodeon shows because I would go on and on. My absolute number one, that I can think of at this moment? Are You Afraid of the Dark? The first three seasons only. The rest of them sucked. Also, I own the first season of Clarissa Explains It All on DVD.

Again, deprived, growing up in the semi-Amish life, out in the boonies where cable did not reach, pre-the days of satellite TV.

With the three network stations we got via antenna, you could watch....hmmmm...The Rockford Files, The Rockford Files, and....oh, yeah...The Rockford Files.

No many people know that Michael Landon was actually the Anti-Christ.

EDIT: His evil plans were thwarted by Lorne Greene and thus he went on to make Highway to Heaven in order to redeem himself.

Michael Landon is in fact Jessica Simpson (which, in truth, basically backs up the whole antichrist theory). Have we not been over this?
