So I am going to try a change in pace this summer. Instead of going to the gym three times a week, I am joining a volleyball and a basketball league and only going to go twice. Any comments or critiques? Oh and I am ecto (high metabolism).

I think it's a good idea! The nice things about basketball and volleyball is that you get to play and forget the fact that you're getting exercise. With the gym, you're always thinking about that.

i have no idea - i've never played sports. depends on how brutal it is, i guess. you already work out regularly though, so i dont see why you'd have a problem. maybe step up your workout routine in the meantime in order to close any gap that you might anticipate?

j-gilr it does nto sound like too much stuff to me as during the summer i'll ride my bike, golf, play beach vb, golf and hockey and still go to the gym (if I feel run down I'll skip the gym).

Well, if it crashes on you, you can always cut the gym down to only once a week ... the former two sounds like more fun....

Just make sure to take it easy. Those sports are hard on your joints.

1.5 hours- twice a week. Although now I am wondering if I should join female only for basketball. Guys never pass the ball to chicks
Yeah cutting down gym seems like a good idea and its only going to be four months.
Spokes- I have only played rec level volleyball before- you think teammates will playa hate?

LOL! Can you score the rock? Play a little D? Box out? Rebound? You master those things and I'm sure you'll get the ball...mostly when the other team scores and someone needs to pass it in. ;)

It's only "too much" for a week or two. After that you'll be fine.
Sports are always a better way to work out since you're almost sure to have fun and it occupies you mind in a better way.

If you're pretty fit to begin with, I'd think that exercising just twice a week would be a breeze. Are you planning on doing any type of workout besides those two days? Doing cardio/weight work during your "off" days would compliment your vollyball/basketball.

I would think that they would only be frustrated with your lack of expereince if you joined the ultra-competive division and overestimated your capabilities.
Personally I expect co-ed sports to not be as comeptitve as the testosterone has to be spread a little thinner, that being said I have played on one mixed slo-pitch team where the best player was a woman and she was able to "flip the switch" when she stepped on the field and be as competitve as any guy out there.
