View Full Version : Unemployed for months
It's been months. anyway it looks like the temp job I applied to I may not get. my expenses are starting to pile up from counseling and I'm still in job counseling hopefully for another session or two. Should I just go to a temp agency at this point? I'm looking to start applying to jobs after my career counseling so I'd like something part time. I'm not sure about food service jobs. I lack coordination skills and am a little slow. I did graduate college.

Um, your vocational counselor should be working on these questions with you. You should be able to find free vocational counseling. Look at large philanthropy/religious organizations. If you have a college degree, your alma mater should provde some help, too, through the career center. Good luck!

You might want to check out contract agencies for work. These are also known as temp agencies, but most have expanded to include many different fields. I was out of work for 14 months after I graduated. I talked to a national recruiter named Kelly Services and they placed me fairly quickly.
I know Kelly and others have specialized branches for almost any field, even degrees such as law and engineering. They might be able to help you find something for the interim while you can continue to look for a permanent position. They negotiated a generous salary for me as well.
Just a word of warning though. Most employers who hire contract workers from recruitment agencies like this regard contract temps as workhorses. You may recieve work that no one else wants to do or have to work longer hours than normal.
Usually the recruitment agency is pretty receptive to the needs of the people they place. Just make sure you keep in communication with them while you're out on the job. If something isn't working out, they'll usually try to help fix it.

Agree with chicago...your counselor should advise you on this...anyway, I would def. look into temp work. It's not glamorous, but it will pay the bills.
