Hi everyone. Just wondering if anyone is a reality TV freak like I am and watched The Bachelor last night and what you thought of it. Bob is cute, but I can't believe those women acted the way they did towards him. Is a good man that hard to find? I mean they were practically worshipping him.

On principal, I hate reality tv. I think it should be called "totally contrived tv." I did watch the Bachelor, though. I am caught between admiring those women for having the self-esteem and confidence to compete against 24 other women for one man's affection, and despising them for their obvious desperation. I don't really find Bob that attractive, though I'm sure he could be a sweet and funny guy. But how could any of those women ever hope to develop a deep, trusting relationship with him, knowing he is making out (and more?) with all of them. I think the show is a sign of the times. It appeals to us because, as we've discussed in other threads, it is very difficult for us quarterlifers to meet people. Who wouldn't want to be in the Bachelor or Bachelorette's position of having 25 attractive people falling all over themselves to be with you? It's a fantasy become quasi-reality.

Goodgirl, I'm glad you started this thread, because I was tempted to, anyway.

I never got into reality t.v. My roommate was obsessed with the last Bachelor and the Bachelorette. I watched a little bit of it last night but just don't understand how women can "throw" themselves at a guy out of desperation! It just blows my mind becuase they are all smart and attractive women. What is wrong with our society that makes women go to such desperate measures?

I blame the men! hehehe ;) Just kidding!

I don't understand the appeal of reality TV. The people aren't shown having real conversations, having opinions, being human. It's all so staged, I don't get how it can be perceived as "reality" in any way. :(

I watched a lovely documentary on the Blues last night....documentaries ARE reality TV......
I hate the crap that america watches...it dumbs the rest of us down.....
I wish the shows that take over prime time would go away.
Until then its good books and learning stuff via educational TV for me.

There was a scientist that came to the conclusion that when someone was watching, the behavior of animals and people changes because the watcher is affecting the subjects. If people really want "reality," hide the cameras and dont tell anyone they are there. Then you will see what really makes all of these people tick, and not just what they do in front of a camera.

That's a really good point. People who are in front of camera's are constantly preforming. I don't know how people who are on the Real World can say "oh, you just forget the camera's are there." I don't believe that.
