It was $50 a month. Then they closed. So, nothing, now.

$24/month at 24 hr fitness that I've been a member since December 2000. Back then it was like an arm and leg to join though. I haven't gone in awhile, but I don't want to close out my account either.

I just started working out again (just at home), so hopefully I'll be using that gym membership once again.

Dammmn, I didn't realize ppl paid so much!! I'm paying $10 a month, after $29 down, for a Planet Fitness. My old gym, through work, averaged out to about $28 a month...

When I lived near a YMCA, I was eligible for a $5 monthly membership due to working for a nonprofit. It was right by work and very nice, too.

Unfortunately, I no longer work for a nonprofit, the closest Y to me is about 20 miles away, and there is a surcharge for being "out of district."

It would be $43-48 if I joined the Y.
When I am a student, I use the school gym (very nice) that is already paid for through mandatory fees.
My employer also has four gyms on site that I can use for free, but I haven't used them...I heard they were nice.

I recently did a story about the Ys new "personal pricing program" It basically prices memberships based on your income. You jsut need to supply a tax form and everything is gravy with them I'm not even sure they keep the tax form, they jsut need to look at it.

anyway, My company is gigantor, so a lot of places offer coprorate rates for employees, but I'd still rather save the cash and work at home. When i get another bump in pay, maybe I'll join a gym.

They were doing this 7 years ago, when I was a volunteer...based on my $80 a month income, I got to go for free! All they needed was a paycheck stub.

I'm going to sign up for a kickboxing studio and take classes there. It's a bit pricey at $80 a month, but it's probably the one and only exercise I enjoy.

All I have to say is DO NOT USE BALLY'S!!!!!!!!!

Sweet deal!

Yeah, I joined before they actually opened. I think it's like $200 down now. My old gym was $150 down, $8/month, but it was so crappy I couldn't take it anymore and decided I could swing the extra $12 a month. ;) I also pay $125/year for a locker rental.

New York Sports Club, $84/month (its the membership where you can use at any of the gyms in NYC, Boston, Philly, or DC at any time)... I think the initiation fee was either $100 or $150, but I really don't remember. It was a one year contract, but has now switched to month to month. I'd have preferred to just get the membership where you have only one main gym and then offpeak at all the others but A. this was the only level of membership available at the most convenient gym when I opened the membership and B. I don't think the lower level is all that much cheaper...
It's a lot, but the gym is across the street from my office, so I actually USE the membership!

I pay 44.95 per month which is actually pretty good. The reason they charge so less is because the dude who owns the gym said that most gyms are rip offs. They make people pay double the amount and that money is used to open new branches. The interior of my gym is pretty modern, and very well done and he is always renovating. If it wasnt for this gym I'd be paying a ridiculous amount somewhere.

My membership at the YMCA is $50/month. There was a $75 joiner fee also. If you show them you have health insurance (from certain companies) you get a discount and/or the fee waived. You can also get discounts depending on the time of the year- generally there are incentives around the "new year".

My membership comes with access to about 20 free classes (weight training, swimming, cycling, kickboxing, etc).
