Hey guys. So my brain is at it again debating if I want to part ways with the Maryland/Baltimore area where I've been for the last 14 years (i'm 27).
I'd like to take the money i've made off my current home and move to a new area. What I'd like: Affordable housing, Nice area, with a decent nightlife, not stuck up people would be a plus :)
Have considered Phoenix, Florida (but where that is not pricey now) and started debating North Carolina (Raleigh?).
Anyone visted, live, whatever and know about these areas? ANY other suggestions are welcome.

Well, for Florida, Jacksonville is really nice. It's big, but not too big. The cost of living is still quite low. It's got world class beaches, pretty good nightlife (Jacksonville Landing area), only an hour from major historical areas like St. Augustine and Savannah, a couple of hours from Orlando, and a mild climate with a low chance of hurricanes due to the concavity of the coastline.
I would love to live in JAX if I had a chance...
If you don't mind the isolation and really hot weather, Tallahassee is booming.

I've lived in Phoenix for the past two years. It's nice in that it's ALWAYS sunny, but there aren't really any seasons (I miss that). It's pretty affordable. The nightlife in Tempe and Scottsdale is good, although, Scottsdale in quite snobish, hence the slang, "Snobsdale." Honestly, I'm planning on moving. I like the weather, but it's not enough for me to stay. I feel like this place lacks community and character. The urban sprawl here is out of control. It does seem to be a good city for music, lots of venues and concerts. Either people love it or hate it here. I'm planning on moving to SF or Denver.

I live in Phoenix. And I love it. I lived in California since the age of 4 and moving out here was probably the best thing I've done for myself. I've been out here for just over a year.
The heat is probably the only downfall about living in the desert, but it's really only 3-4 months of the year - 2 months were it's extremely hot. Then it's great weather for 8 months. Winter months here are great! Housing is still somewhat affordable. I still rent, but my rent it really cheap compared to where I was living in So. Cali with a roommate.
Depending on what you do for a living, you shouldn't have a hard time finding a job either.

I live in the Raleigh area- it's a nice city, if a bit quiet sometimes (I'm more of a big city gal so I'm looking to move *out* of Raleigh!) The scenery is gorgeous, there's lots to do in the area, and the housing is definitely affordable...you can get a one bedroom apartment for about $600-700/month. And you can't beat the Southern charm ;)

I was born and raised in Jacksonville, and I currently still reside there. It is a GREAT area. The area is really booming with a lot of development and businesses. A new mall just opened last year, and 2 more are in the process of being built right now. Also, if you are looking for an area to live I highly recommend the North St. Johns county area. That is where I grew up and that is where the best public schools are located, as well as homes. Because it is a great area people are moving in like crazy which is driving up the housing market, but the farther out you go, the more you can get for your money. But I highly recommend you check out all the areas in Jacksonville, there is so much growth happening its ridiculous. Good luck!

I have lived in Tallahassee and currently live in Orlando, FL. A lot of people are moving to the Orlando area and the cost of living is starting to go up.
