I graduated recently ('99) with a degree in Elementary Ed. I substituted from Apr. until Jun. 2000. Then I tried to find a teaching job and couldn't get one. I ended up getting a job as a sales analyst with a friend's company.
Now I'm getting married in Oct. '01 and planning on moving to Florida. The problem is that I'm pretty sure that I won't be able to get a similar position with this company down there and I'm having a hell of a time finding a similar position with another company. I could look for a teaching job but I feel that I'm "out of the loop" now that I've been away from teaching for a year. Plus I'm not sure that I want to go back to teaching. I'm man enough to say out of fear of failure and I don't know why. Everybody else I talk to says that I should try it, but I don't think that I want to.
I'm going nuts with nowhere else to go.

My suggestion is to go down to Florida and start to substitute teach again just to get a feel for things. When you get used to it then start putting applications in. I hear it's very simple getting into any southern schools especially if you were educated up north. Good luck and congratulations!

Try being a Governess/nanny.

You make the same as teaching!
I am making $30K a year as a live-out governess nanny. I have 3 children I work with. You basically teach them preschool things that they would learn in preschool or elementary school while doing childcare. It is fun, it is with children, you use your degree for teaching...and if you need a place to live, you could be a live-in.

www.nannynetwork.com is a nanny website, they can help.
www.nannyclassifieds.com is another nanny website where you can put an ad online.

You will also have nap times to do your "own thing" most of the time. You can Pick your family... you can't pick the class of kids you get in a school! :) I love it, and I have my education degree as well.
