Don't you guys hate having to put up with bosses giving you work right before it's time for you to go home??

For instance, last Friday, my boss spends all afternoon out of his office but he manages to come back 10 minutes before it's time for me to leave and gives me all this crap to do. On the top of that, they guy was pissed about I dontknowhat going wrong so he was a dickhead about it, the idiot with the managing skills of a baboon!

Newsflash Mr. Boss, I HATE having to spend a single more minute than necessary in here doing this stupid work I hate, so when it's Friday evening what I really want is to go home to my real life!

Okay, I feel a little better now.

Umm, yeah, so you do it on Monday.

This happens to me all the time. I don't stay late to do it. I save it for Monday.

Yeah, that's what I would normally do, but it's sort of impossible if the guy is actually standing right there looking at you waiting for you to do what he asked you to!

If you have to go, you have to go. A lot of times bosses don't realize what they are doing. I'd sit down and speak to him about your feelings and how you have M-F 9-5 to do stuff, so if he can give you the stuff while you are there, it would be appreciated. People have lives, kids, etc. outside of work too. However, at the same time, at least I know where I work, people need to be flexible at times. Sometimes there are days where you need to stay late..........

Sounds like your boss is a jerk if this happens often. I, too have had this happen many times. You have two options, deal with it if it's important, or let your boss know that you won't have time to work on X project until Monday. It all depends on your work relationship and how important X project is. Once you put your foot down on projects that can wait, hopefully he'll get the hint. If not, you have to spell it out for him..."I'd really like to get this project doen for you, but it seems like it will take X amount of time and I already have plans tonight. Is this something you need now or can it wait until Monday?"
I hope that helps.

I really feel your pain on this one. Not with my current job, but with my last job.

I worked at a consulting firm doing marketing. Since consultants are paid hourly they can pretty much make their own hours. So, most of them got in the office around 10 each morning. The marketing staff, however, had to be there during business hours - from 8-5.

Every single day I worked there, this one consultant would give me proposals to edit or write at like 4:45!!!! I had an hour and a half commute at the time, and staying late made it even longer because I'd miss my train.

Even though he knew this and how upset it made me when he gave me work last minute like that, he did it all the time. The worst was when he did it on Fridays.
