Have you been in a situation where you finish an interview and feel totally sure you got the job but ended up with someone else being picked, or where you felt like you bombed the interview but got the job after all? I felt the latter when I interviewed for my current job. It was my very first interview and I was incredibly nervous - I stumbled on my words quite a bit. I also felt pressured because there were so many other candidates with experience and I had no experience whatsoever. No work experience period. But I got the job! Now I've interviewed for another job, and will hear something by the end of this week. While I'm highly qualified and felt I presented myself fairly well, I won't get my hopes up...

At least they told you. My brother had an interview that he was sure he nailed (it lasted a couple hours, and the interviewer even told him that he'd be great for the position), but, after telling him that they'd call him within 2 days to let him know either way, they blew him off for 4 days until he went to the office personally and made them tell him that a)he wasn't selected for the job and b)they wimped out on telling him and had no intention of ever getting in touch with him. Asshats.

I pretty much know when it doesn't go well..but I'm really, really good at reading people.
It's harder for me over the phone, though because there's a lot less to go on and there's no body language, eye contact, etc.
I never feel confident one way or the other after a phone interview.

I had similar experiences with interviews.. One I thought I really had the job and even called the guy when I got another offer (at the advice of several people) and he was like oh yea ur def still in the runnings we just have some more interviews tomorrow, can you give us 2 more days? And I took that as some serious level of interest (apparently very wrong on my part) and I never heard from them again. I have a suspicion the person who got hired had a security clearance which is a big deal there , where as I did not at the time. But who knows. I just think its rude and unprofessional not to tell someone either way

I can usually tell, because five years as a reporter and a lifetime of being a fairly tuned in, observent person has made me pretty adept at picking up on cues.

I know when I have nailed the interview. and since I was about age 22 my tack record of interviews to job offers has been very good as I have interviewed for about a dozen jobs, and rec'd offers for all but one of them.
Tehre were a couple of interviews that I did not think went well, however things still worked out from me.
I keep wondering when my luck is going to run out, or what happens to my physche when I nail an interview and then don't get an offer.

I've never not been offered the job when I've nailed it (I've never not been offered the job, period, come to think of it). I guess we'll see what happens in a couple of days, here.
