The job search was a trip-- after sending out nearly 200 resumes, having had dozens of interviews where people asked me everything from arcane policy questions to my age and ethnicity, and having recieved late-night phone calls from one interviewer, it's finally drawing to a close. I'll wrap up my remaining interviews, but I am so glad that this search is over, and for a job in my field, with decent pay, and good benefits.
Thanks, all, for your posts as I've gone through this grueling process, and your help!

Thanks guys. Maybe this is another thread, but my next question is-- where the hell did some of these very experienced, educated, etc. people learn to conduct interviews?! Some of the questions. . . I need a drink just thinking about it.

Well, they probably may have the book smarts but maybe not the interviewing smarts...as long as you feel comfortable working with these people, that's all that matters.

Well, with my new position, I've just started having to do interviews. While I must say I have now settled into this role quite well, it was very intimadating at first being "on the other side of the desk". We have a basic format of questions we follow, but I've started to throw in questions based on situations we've dealt with lately as an agency to see their responses..........

Generally people have had no training whatsoever in conducting interviews. And the HR person who weighs in on the interviewing process, or conducts one of the interview rounds, often doesn't know exactly what the hiring manager is looking for.
