WTF... Does anyone, if they like to "play around" with their IPOD (i.e. listen to a song, then flip the song, then flip the song again, etc. ) have their battery only last like 3 hours???

YES!!!!

It shits me too, because I went to use my ipod yesterday, walking down the street (strutting - I'm cool, I've got an ipod, right?), and nothing. Nada. Damn thing wouldn't even turn on.

I'm no longer cool

Did you follow the instructions to calibrate the battery when you bought it?

If that means letting the battery run down initially, and then charging it for 24 hours or something, then yep, I did.

yep, me too. I've noticed that the battery life goes down really quickly if I'm actively skipping around the songs, etc. Even if you just let it play the battery life isn't so good- sometimes it doesn't even make it through the entire work day!

But what can I say, it's small and cute and I still love my nano :)

Generally, it lasts me a day and a half...and I only use it commuting to work, at lunch, and maybe a bit in the evening.

OT, if anyone wants to trade Woody Guthrie songs, please let me know...

i rec'd a 2 gig nano from my mom (she rec'd it as a gift for switching ISP's) - i am glad i did not buy it.

i bought a charger of it and I just try and put it on the charger every night.

Wow...that's amazing. I have a shuffle (512mb) and the battery lasts about a week!

Granted I only listen to it on the commute and occasionally at work (or all day if I'm training on something). But still...I'd be kinda pissed if I bought an ipod and it died by the end of the day.

i think that the battery can be repalced, although i can't see how one would crack that bad boy open.

can anyone confirm my impression.

If it has a battery, it can be replaced. I dont have a nano but in the Ipod manual, it does say that skipping around (using the back and forward buttons) is more intensive on the battery than using the scroll wheel to find a song.

I thought about getting an ipod a long time ago, but I found out that the only way to replace the battery is to pay an apple repair centre to do it. I'd still hesitate to buy one today. I got mine as a freebie for getting dsl service

Not true (http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/ipod/batteryreplacement/)

There are other 3rd party replacement kits as well.

So now my iPOD is acting up! Granted I am always shuffling songs. But I charged mine last night and then I used it this morning for 40 minutes, and again during lunch for 20 minutes, and it runs out of battery! When I first got it- it wouild last me three days!!!! Is it worth buying a Nano?

I am not in the mood for practical answers!

I have the 512mb iPod Shuffle, and its battery lasts about 8 hours of continual play (unless you get the battery pack attachment, which boosts it up to like 20 hours).
