Just got a job interview. I guess this is like a poll question... How long did you have to wait for the "job offer call".

It's been 4 business days since the interview for me... But I felt it was successful...

am i anxious?

I know exactly how you feel. I went on an interview 3 days ago and I felt it was pretty successful as well, but I won't get my hopes up. I'm supposed to hear something by the end of this week. Waiting for the decision is definitely the hardest part of the job search process. When I got hired for my current job, it had been 5 business days since the interview.

Did the interviewer tell you when they were going to contact you about their decision?

I know how you feel as well. I had one interview last week, and another the week before. Both seemed to go really well, but I haven't heard back from either.

sometimes these things can take a month or so - this time of year lots of people start to take vacation.

Very good point. And also at bigger corporations sometimes quite a few people have to sign off on actually adding another person to headcount so paperwork might sit on someone's desk while they are on vacation.

I had an interview 4 weeks ago and thought it went well. They told me they had to interview more people and would like to make a decision in 10 days-2 weeks. So after 2 weeks with no contact I called them. HR told me the engineering manager, who interviewed me and would make the final decision, was out on vacation for a week. I figured I'd give them a few more days (he got back on Monday) to sort things out before giving them a call tomorrow morning.

Also if the need to hire someone is urgent they will usually tell you that and give you a time frame. If not I always try and ask and if for someone reason I forget I think 2 weeks is a good arbitrary time to give them a ring and see if a decision has been made.

I suggest this formula:

1. If, at the interview, you asked when the hiring decision would be made and recieved a firm response, contact the interviewer on or around the date specified.

2. If, at the interview, you asked when the hiring decision would be made and received a vague response, follow-up in 7-10 days after the interview to check on progress and express continued interest in the position.

3. If you did not ask when the hiring decision would be made, follow-up in 7-10 days after the interview to check on progress and express continued interest in the position.

In my case, I waited about a week or so between each interview. My first two interviews were phone calls. When I had my first in person interview, it went well and it took about a week. Then I had two more interviews. I really didn't know I had a job until I had a lunch interview with my current job. He pretty much let me in on the fact that I got the job. A day or two later, I got the call while giving a Segway tour and returned it in a Starbucks, nearly screaming my ass off.

It depends. When I got my internship, I called after week and was told that i got it. For my current job, I was told that I would be contacted by the end of the week (the inteview was on a Mon). I got a second interview on a Tues and got an offer by Wed morning.

Oh damn! I know exactly what you are talking about, I went like three weeks ago for an interview and she said that she would email me the next day for the second interview, and that it had to go to HR, then when I called the next week she was still working on getting everything to HR. So now it has been like 2 weeks or 3 and still no word. I know she is a scattered person, but she told me in the interview that I would be back for the HR interview and tests that go along with it because of my knowledge of their company, and the 5 people in it pulling for me. I am so confused, plus I got an email from a guy for an even better job and he hasn;t sent me any reply yet either. I swear, why don't people just say, I think your a stupid ass, and would roll over in my grave before I give you the job??!!!! I would rather someone tell me that, than to lead me on with false hope. Don't you all agree???

Job interviews suck

The waiting really sucks

I am very persistant when it comes to getting a response, as I am not one to be toyed with. I generally send a "thank you for the interview" letter or e-mail within 3 days of the interview. I then call every 4-7days and continue to ask politley when I can expect to have a response. I hate the run around and won't stand for it. You'd hope that the company would like that sort of determination.
