If you could pick any TV show to be back on the air, be it with new episodes or reruns, what would it be?

That's easy -- Buffy. The only show I couldn't EVER miss. I like Angel, but it's not the same...

I miss Northern Exposure....Marilyn with her all-knowin stare...and Chris the thug philosopher...oh and Ed, he was just so cute!

Has anyone ever seen "Freaks and Geeks" it was on NBC for half a season I think, then Fox Family picked up the reruns. It was so cute, but I never saw it on the first time...

Oh and the Wonder Years was the best show. I was the same age as Kevin, so it was funny to see things from a guy's perspective a that age. And the music was great!

Young Riders was definitely a great show. I cried when Family Ties had it's last episode. And Who's the Boss was one of my favorites, but it's day was over by the last show.

I agree with many shows that have been listed. One that was really not on the air long enough: Strange Luck. It starred D. B. Sweeney (The Cutting Edge, Fire in the Sky) and had a lot of creepy, X-Files type stuff that happened. Plus D. B. Sweeney is a honey.

I miss the Waltons! And Miami Vice! And, I know its so cheesy, but I was totally addicted to 90210! Also, I loved The Adventures of Briscoe County Junior, which was only on for like half a season, but Bruce Campbell was hilarious. I'd bring back the Cosby Show and Fresh Prince of Belair too.

A list of 'toons and sitcoms I would watch again:

*The Snorks (my brother has this on HIS cable system...I'm jealous!)
*Daria (see above)
*Melrose Place
*Beverly Hills Teens (I don't know if too many people remember this...but I loved coming home after school just to see how conniving Bianca would snatch Lark's boyfriend)
*Who's The Boss
*Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids
*Plastic Man
*The Muppet Show (gotta love those two old guys who would criticize everything)
*DuckTales
*Classic Concentration (The 80's version. This was a great play-at-home game show!)
*Punky Brewster (Everytime I think of Punky, I think of that "Just Say No!" episode. I wish I could find those old green silkscreened t-shirts. I think it would be funny to wear it to a reggae festival amidst all the smoke :P)

I'd add more to this list, but some of my favorite 'back in the day' shows are in syndication, such as A Different World and Sanford and Son.

two more shows I should have mentioned:

Yo! MTV Raps--I was such a fan of the Saturday night version, With Dr. Dre (the fat one, not the producer/rapper) and Ed Lover being amusing hosts in between videos. The best seasons were from 1991 to 1994, before hip hop started to become mainstream. I also enjoyed Headbanger's Ball during the years of 1992-1994, when Riki Rachtman was the host.

Nowadays MTV is a station I skip when I'm channel surfing!

Voltron!!!! hell yeah!

11-17-2003, 03:22 PM
One time at a swapmeet I came across a Voltron imitation (can't remember what it was called) and my mom bought it for me. I was so elated I finally had a Voltron toy even though it didn't carry the Voltron name. It came with all of the lions that could be played with individually and combined to form Voltron. It kicked major ass!!!

Oh yeah I liked Mr. Wizard and 321 Contact, but the kids on Mr. Wizard left me feeling inferior. Geez they must be really smart to be on that show and here I am sitting on a bean bag picking my nose.

I was born and raised in SoCal and one time my class got to go on a field trip and visit a set where they filmed shows for TV. It was so cool because we got to see and touch the very same plane they used in Fantasy Island :P My mom also used to take me to a minature golf/arcade place which I can't remember the name because it's been so many centons, but anyway they used that same place to film a scene in The Karate Kid.

Hey, hey! Now you're talking! There are so many shows that I liked over the years, but I've been a Trekkie through and through since Star Trek: TNG first came out in 1987. I remembered watch TOS before that, but don't remember becoming hooked on Trek until TNG. I even remember being so excited about watching it when they started advertising it before the first episode aired. Now, I've got all of the Trek movies, and numerous episodes taped. I followed it through DS9 and Voyager, but haven't been able to watch Enterprise yet because I can't get UPN or any other channels that air it where I live. That was my start into becoming a big sci-fi/fantasy addict. Now, I try to catch shows like Stargate, Andromeda, The Outer Limits, etc., whenever I get a chance.

I also used to watch Voltron and Transformers after school every afternoon. My other favorite cartoon was He-Man.

As a kid, I was an avid TV watcher, but I'm a lot pickier about what I watch now. I can't stand a lot of these new "reality" shows, and almost despise daytime television. Another thing I can't stand is ball games on TV.

I noticed on your location, you have "Salusa Secundus." I take it you've watched Children of Dune? Just wondering, which of the Dune movies did you like better, the one that came out in 1984 starring Kyle McLaughlin, or the more recent remake starring William Hurt?

Edibleautopsy
11-26-2003, 10:21 PM
I've seen Dune off and on again on TV but I was never really into it nor did I understand what was really going on. But recently I watched it on DVD with subtitles on and I was able to walk away with a better understanding of its plot. I was able to pick up the subtle nuances that I missed in previous viewings.

After that viewing I started searching for fansites to get feedback on what others thought of the movie. Now not having read Dune prior to watching the DVD, I actually liked the movie, especially its soundtrack. However, I noticed that those who've read the book despised David Lynch's movie because of the creative liberties he took with the movie. Supposedly the studio stepped in ordered changes to the movie which Lynch opposed but could not stop. I guess he even tried to have his name pulled from the credits.

So I decided to buy the book and see what all the fuss was about. It's a pretty complex story especially for someone with a puny mind like myself - - I often found myself re-reading certain parts to understand what in the hell was going on. I'm not an avid reader, but Dune managed to suck me in entirely. It was one of the few books I've read that made me want to keep reading just to find out what happened next. I recently picked up second book in the series, Dune Messiah.

I still haven't seen Children of Dune yet.

1) Dungeons & Dragons (an 80s animated series about a group of kids [mainly brothers and sisters, I think] that go to a fair, take a ride into a tunnel and get transported into the realm of dungeons and dragons. the story is about them trying to get back home. I remember one episode where they go through a maze where, at the end, is a portal back home; but one member of the group wasn't around so they couldn't go, and the portal -- finally a way to get back home -- disappears.)

2) The Wuzzles (cartoon, 80s)

3) Gummy Bears (Gummy bears, bouncing here and there and everywhere... la la la) (obviously a cartoon)

4) Party of Five!

Space: Above and Beyond

I loved that show. I had some unrealistic qualities like: The soldiers were pilots and soldiers. But it had this world war II like feel that can't be beat. Just as it was really getting interesting Fox cut it.

Another show Fox didn't give a chance. They showed it in the wrong order, which gave it a WTF?! feel in the beginning. But Joss Whedon wrote a really good show that got canned before it got a chance.

He gives us shoutouts via the show...one scene had the one sporty dude playing basketball in a college logo hoodie I own (and it's NOT a commonly heard-of college outside of pretty limited circles, or a logo you're likely to see out and about).

I used to watch this one and Don't Just Sit There. But my fave Nick show was Roundhouse. I use to love that show. Those kids were so talented!

Yeah, I forgot about the nickolodeon shows too. I loved Clarissa and it was probably the only reason I watched Sabrina the teenage witch after that. And yeah, Hey Dude was the name of it, I didn't watch it religously, but it was about a ranch, if I remember correctly.

I'm sure someone's mentioned Pete & Pete already. I forgot about how much I loved it until last year when someone let me borrow their copy of the original music written for the show by Polaris (Mark Mulcahy et al). Remember that surreal Michael Stipe cameo?

I'm with anyone who might have mentioned Arrested Development. Hilarious show in my opinion. One of the last episodes with the constant "subtle" references to the showing ending or saving the show was pretty funny!

Oh & when I think of Punky Brewster, I think of that episode where her friend Cherry (?) gets locked in the abandoned fridge & almost suffocates. That's really the only one I remember.

Yeah and Allan can't do CPR because he was slacking off in CPR training. Awesome epi.

I want Pop-Up-Video to return. I used to watch that for HOURS.

Yeah and Allan can't do CPR because he was slacking off in CPR training. Awesome epi.

Oh my lord, I remember that! That's the one I remember the most of. There's also the one where some kid steals her dog and says he'll take him to Florida. And then there's the one where she wants boobs. I remember that one a lot, actually.

But there was one I discussed with my friend and he swears it didn't exist, but I think it did because it scared me to death. They were in this cave with some enormous spider, and it was a two-parter. The second half we see is that someone gets a pretty silver axe and kills the spider. My friend says "They would never put that in Punky Brewster!" I could've sworn I saw it.

Also, they should bring back Cartoon Planet.
Oh! And DUH, they NEED to bring back MST3K.... Even if it's MST4K or something, just something my children can have in their generation.

If you could pick any TV show to be back on the air, be it with new episodes or reruns, what would it be?

Beavis and Butthead (new episodes and reruns of the really old, first season before they stared going censor-happy)
Sex and the City (new episodes)
Quantum Leap
Full House
Turkey TV
Murphy Brown
Dukes of Hazzard (dating myself here)
You Can't do that on Television
Are you Afraid of the Dark

I LOVE BEAVIS AND BUTTHEAD. I have everything that they made that's been put out on DVD, but I wish they'd do a lot of the older eppys.

And Brisco County Jr.

OMG, totally!! I LOVE Brisco County. They finally came out with a legitimate DVD set of that show. Naturally, they priced it higher than the going rate, those bastards!

I also want to bring back the BBC sitcom "Vicar of Dibley;" they announced in July that that series is ending for good in March '07. The comedienne who starred in that show did a dark comedy a couple of years ago called "Wild West" that I wish they would do another set of.

I used my Teddy Ruxpin to play songs by New Kids on the Block (my sister's tape, I swear). It was the most halarious thing a kid could witness.
