I stayed home sick today, first time calling in sick. Let me tell you, I feel awful! I did feel sick earlier due to something I ate last night, but I am feeling awful now becuase I know how much of an inconvenience it will be to my co-workers that I am out. Not to mention I am deathly afraid of my boss and what she will say tomorrow. Anyways, I know it is time for me to move on from my current position and I have sat here literally all day looking for a new job. But in what? I have no direction, and I know there have been alot of threads on direction and passions lately. I really don't know what I can do at this time, or what I am qualified to do. I feel so damn lost. So lost.

What do you do currently? What have your past experiences been both at work and in "real life". Any "hobbies" or "volunteer stuff" you could turn into a marketable skill?

RE calling in sick: Don't sweat it, it happens - that's why sick time was invented. Try to just enjoy your day off and possibly use it as a time to focus on what you want to do moving forward.

Maybe write some lists about what you enjoy about your current job and what you don't enjoy? Then, go from there.

I am currently an admin assistant at a non-profit agency. I have been there a little over a year. My boss even candidly told me that I should stay no longer than a year to a year and a half due to the fact that I can be doing and making more with my degree. I have been working since I was 16 years old, and I have worked in many different types of jobs. I like working in non-profit but there's no money in it, and I have no clue what else to do. Kitty, thanks for the suggestion regarding making lists, I think I will do that.

Everyone needs a mental health day from time to time. Don't worry about it. If i were you I'd just start browsing job postings. That's how I've found the majority of my jobs, and be picky! I think the best thing I did for my career was not settle any more. I only move into a new job when I know it is a logical move for me career wise and when it is something I know I would be happy doing--at least for a while.

agree with the others about not sweating taking a day off.. they'll all survive. Do you think your boss would hesitate to do the same or feel as bad? probably not. Can you maybe take a career interest test to get you started.. theres always good old meyers brigg haha.. Are there other things you ahve been involved with that would make you happy to do full time? If you really like non-profit stuff maybe try to focus on a topic.. theres so many areas under non-profit.. Is lots of money really worth taking a different job that you hate?

I saw this on another post a few weeks back, and it was actually very eye opening. He gives you ideas of how to decide what to do with your life, about making lists and so forth, and focussing on the good, and is definately worth taking a look at, it was quite inspiring to me. Good luck, oh, and I am against those test LOL..... Mine told me way to much about myself, in very graffic details, made me feel a lot worse about myself that I did before, and picked at every quirk that I have HEHEHE!!!!!
Good Luck and God Bless, Melanie
