Here's an interesting article. I know we've been debating on the boards lately about abortion. Apparently in india, the preference to have a boy is leading to mothers using ultrasound to determine the sex and aborting the unwanted girls.

Its biting them in the ass now, since there is a shortage of brides. Looks like they found a solution to their population problem.

This is an awful state of affairs in India and has everything to do with the brutal dowry system, that although illegal, is still wideliy practiced. Basically, a woman's family has to pay extortion prices to secure a marriage with a man. It's totally insane, and now seems to be coming home to roost.

Ever wonder why all the "smart" Indians leave and come to the West. This story is part of the answer.

It will be interesting to see what effect this has on the population of India. Reducing the amount of men does very little, if anything, to the population numbers. I have done quite a bit of research into plagues and virus outbreaks, and in theory a 99.9% reduction in only males could have little effect on the current population size. But a reduction in the number of females would take centuries to get back to the current population size. The World is overpopulated now, but there are way too many factors causing it to get bigger. This might be an example of a way of reducing the size, sort of like what China did with the 1-child law. But it will make for some unhappy guys though, maybe the QLC book and website should be translated into hindi.

jku, is the dowry system the same as arranged marriages? I just asked my friend who is from India about that this afternoon. He said it used to be around 90%, but now it is around 20%. The scary thing is to try and think who your parents would force you to marry. I think my odds are 50/50 that I would be happy with who they pick.
